Seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to lead the design and development of technical training programs.
You will:
· Engage stakeholders to identify skill gaps, learner pain points, and role-based needs for technical content development.
· Apply adult learning theories and principles to create clear, engaging, and practical technical skill-building courses.
· Balance content creation with program support and operational follow-through.
· Communicate effectively and clearly in writing and collaborate with stakeholders, SMEs, clients, IDs, and SLS.
· Deep familiarity with the ADDIE instructional design model, Bloom’s taxonomy, Assessment creation, and content management systems.
· Conduct needs assessments and front-end analyses to identify training requirements and recommend effective learning solutions for apprenticeships.
· Collaborate with the Senior Learning Strategists and Instructional Designers to determine learning strategies, create curriculum maps, and assessment approaches.
· Work with SMEs to review off-the-shelf courses for inclusion in the Technician curriculum.
· Guide the use of appropriate learning technologies and tools to enhance training effectiveness. Propose solutions to stakeholders.
· Meet quality standards; perform quality assurance (QA) reviews.
· Estimate project costs and develop schedules in collaboration with the Senior Learning Strategist and Instructional Designers.
· Manage project execution, ensuring deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
· Facilitate key project meetings, including Kick-offs, Betas, Train-the-Trainers, and Pilots.
· Track project status and provide updates to stakeholders.
· Proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Collect and analyze training effectiveness metrics and apply continuous improvement strategies.
· Archive course materials and complete project close-out activities.
Duration: 12 months through with possible extension
Location: Livermore, CA (Hybrid – 20% onsite in Livermore/San Ramon/Oakland. Requires quarterly travel with occasional overnight stays in surrounding areas)
Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree
· 5 years of instructional design experience including 2 years in a leadership/mentoring role
· Project management skills/excellent time management and communication skills/technical skills (MS Office expertise)
· Strong ADDIE Model Instructor-led training development
· Learning program execution skills
· utility experience a plus
· Excellent Analysis Skills, Strategic Thinking, and Project Management experience
· Proficiency in MS Office, Articulate Storyline, LMS.
· Strong knowledge of instructional design for classroom and technical or trades environments.
· Demonstrated experience designing multi-year technical training programs.
· Proven experience managing small to mid-sized projects.
