Construction Project Manager – Commercial & Utility‑Scale Solar
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the execution of commercial and utility‑scale solar PV projects from early development through construction, commissioning, and warranty closeout. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contractual, technical, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
<>Project Leadership & Coordination>
- Lead, coordinate, and execute all phases of solar PV projects from project assignment through final completion and warranty.
- Assign weekly workloads and track action items for project team members.
- Conduct weekly status meetings and on‑site coordination meetings with internal teams, subcontractors, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external communications throughout the project lifecycle.
<>Financial & Schedule Management>
- Develop, manage, and track project budgets, schedules, cash flow, and payment plans.
- Prepare and approve final project budgets based on estimates and procurement data.
- Manage subcontractor and professional service invoicing.
- Approve purchase orders, evaluate RFPs, and secure internal procurement approvals.
- Monitor project performance metrics and proactively mitigate risks.
<>Utility Interconnection & Permitting>
- Prepare and submit interconnection documentation to utilities and local jurisdictions.
- Maintain a working knowledge of utility electrical requirements and interconnection agreements.
- Manage medium‑voltage (MV) interconnections and required utility documentation.
- Prepare and submit permitting applications to federal, state, county, and municipal authorities.
- Coordinate construction inspections with regulatory agencies.
- Act as liaison with government agencies, environmental consultants, utilities, and engineering firms to secure permits and licenses.
<>Construction Management & QA/QC>
- Manage all construction activities to ensure milestones are met within approved budgets and schedules.
- Oversee QA/QC processes, including final system inspections and project closeout documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state, county, and municipal codes.
<>Engineering & Design Oversight>
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and warranty activities across internal and third‑party teams.
- Oversee outsourced civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering work for technical and contractual compliance.
- Review, redline, and approve engineering designs.
<>Contract & Scope Management>
- Assist with subcontractor selection, RFP evaluations, and award of work packages.
- Review, finalize, and manage Scopes of Work, Professional Service Agreements, and subcontractor contracts.
- Execute contractual obligations in accordance with Prime EPC agreements.
<>Site Evaluation & Safety>
- Perform preliminary site visits to assess constructability, feasibility, and site conditions.
- Develop and implement OSHA‑compliant safety procedures.
- Create site‑specific safety documentation, including:
- Site Hazard Analyses
- Site Safety Plans
- Emergency Response & Rescue Plans
- Fall Protection Plans
- Flagging & Traffic Control Plans
- Staging Plans
Qualifications
<>Required>
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
- Proven project management experience in construction or energy projects.
- Strong understanding of budgets, schedules, contracts, and risk management.
- Proficiency with Office 365, MS Project, MS Visio, Procore, HelioScope, and Energy Toolbase.
<>Preferred>
- Commercial solar PV construction experience.
- Strong knowledge of PV systems, inverters, and solar project financing.
- Master’s degree in Construction Management.
- PMP, NABCEP certification, Master Electrician license, or similar credentials.
