Zero Trust Cybersecurity Engineer

This role requires on site support in the St. Louis, Illinois area.

Position Summary

The organization is seeking motivated cybersecurity professionals specializing in Zero Trust (ZT) architectures. The successful candidate will contribute immediately to ZT implementation initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders to assess current security postures, identify gaps, and develop migration strategies that maximize the benefits of Zero Trust principles. This role involves becoming a subject matter expert in core principles and guiding teams to develop solutions that prioritize mission success and safeguard data, systems, and personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct security readiness assessments, including gap and maturity analyses, to evaluate Zero Trust implementation statuses.


• Develop comprehensive implementation plans and roadmaps to achieve security and automation goals.


• Research and evaluate Zero Trust security solutions, including their benefits and integration considerations.


• Provide guidance on security policies, governance, organizational processes, workflows, and milestones.


• Standardize Zero Trust design principles across all security pillars such as Users, Devices, Networks, Applications, and Data.


• Understand and apply end-to-end architecture concepts related to Zero Trust, including network technologies, cloud solutions, identity management, microservices, encryption, threat modeling, and security orchestration.


• Coordinate with organizational stakeholders to tailor requirements, develop communication plans, and oversee deployment within network and application environments.


• Innovate and implement efficiencies to improve existing security practices.


• Engage with industry and government entities to shape policy and best practices related to Zero Trust.


• Map and align security control frameworks and standards to technical controls.


• Document and track the progress of Zero Trust initiatives from inception to full implementation of all required activities.


• Lead or support teams across departments, influencing coalition-building and serving as a domain expert.


• Drive development of technical solutions for Zero Trust objectives, including integration with identity management, data security, endpoint security, and trust engines.


• Utilize threat modeling to design and implement Zero Trust controls across architectures.


• Partner with internal and external IT teams to advance federated access and authentication strategies.


• Mentor security professionals, engineers, administrators, developers, and project managers on Zero Trust requirements and solutions.


• Stay current on emerging technologies, concepts, and industry trends relevant to Zero Trust security.

Required Qualifications

• Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.


• At least 4 years of experience in network solutions architecture, engineering, implementation, integrations, and operations for enterprise or carrier-grade networks.


• Experience with cloud-based network infrastructure, including providers like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Oracle Cloud.


• Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade network security tools and SIEM technologies such as Zscaler, Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, Microsoft, Splunk, or ELK.


• Familiarity with security standards and frameworks such as NIST 800-series, FedRAMP, Risk Management Framework, and FISMA guidelines.


• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with management and technical staff.


• Proven collaboration skills across teams and customer engagement.


• Knowledge of Zero Trust architectures, principles, and practices.


• Experience designing and working within enterprise security architectures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher degree in computer engineering, computer science, IT, cybersecurity, or a related field; relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.


• Certification such as CISSO, CISSP-ISSAP, GCSA, GICSP, GCLD, GCIA, or equivalents.


• Additional certifications in cloud security or network security technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Zscaler, Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, Splunk, ELK).


• Active security clearance at the Secret level or higher.
