Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using C# and .NET (primarily .NET Core/.NET 6+), supporting high-scale applications in a distributed environment.
  • Enhance and support existing .NET standalone applications and web services, including troubleshooting, performance optimization, and incremental refactoring.
  • Participate in migration initiatives by converting select .NET components and services to Go (Golang), ensuring seamless functionality, performance, and maintainability during transitions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, DevOps, platform engineering) to implement features, integrate with MongoDB for data persistence, and ensure robust service interactions.
  • Build and consume RESTful APIs and microservices, applying domain-driven design principles where applicable.
  • Implement secure, scalable, and observable code following Starbucks engineering standards, including error handling, logging, and telemetry integration.
  • Write and maintain unit/integration tests, participate in code reviews, and contribute to automated testing strategies.
  • Work within Azure DevOps for source control, work tracking, and CI/CD integration; support YAML pipeline consumption for builds and deployments.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for local development tasks, environment setup, data migrations, or operational automation.
  • Deploy and support services on Kubernetes clusters, including managing containerized .NET and Go workloads, Helm charts (as needed), and basic troubleshooting of pod/runtime issues.
  • Contribute to modernization efforts by identifying opportunities to improve legacy .NET codebases and adopt cloud-native patterns.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to resolve production incidents related to backend services and databases.
  • Document architecture decisions, API specifications, migration patterns, and codebase standards for team reference.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience developing backend applications with C# and .NET (Core preferred), including web services and standalone applications.
  • Proven hands-on experience with at least one project implementing services or applications in Go (Golang); ability to read, write, and maintain Go code for migration or greenfield work.
  • Strong proficiency with Azure DevOps for Git repositories, work items, and basic pipeline interaction.
  • Experience working with MongoDB (querying, schema design, indexing, aggregation pipelines; administration not required).
  • Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes deployments (understanding of manifests, deployments, services, and basic kubectl troubleshooting).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and operational tasks.
  • Solid understanding of REST API design, microservices patterns, and secure development practices.
  • Experience with modern development practices including unit testing (xUnit/NUnit), CI/CD workflows, and agile methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience migrating or refactoring legacy .NET applications to modern .NET or Go.
  • Knowledge of Helm charts, canary/blue-green deployment patterns, or GitOps approaches.
  • Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault or similar secrets management in development workflows.
  • Exposure to observability tools (e.g., logging, metrics, tracing) in cloud-native environments.
  • Understanding of Azure services (App Services, Functions, or related) as complementary to Kubernetes.
  • Previous experience in retail, consumer-facing, or high-traffic transactional systems.
