Job DescriptionSenior Engineer, Usability & Human FactorsOur Senior Usability & Human Factors Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the Philips solution they work on is safe, effective, efficient, intuitive, and satisfactory to use. You will be responsible for advocating usability & user-centered design, and prioritizing user needs and patient safety in the business- and project team.
Your role:- Leads the usability activities on their project, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, which includes UI/UX designers, product designers, clinical specialists, product managers, researchers, developers, and system engineers. Involved in all product development phases and leads the activities, using critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Conducts user research and develop detailed use scenarios and task analyses, gaining a deep understanding of user interactions and workflows to facilitate the creation of intuitive and efficient user interfaces. Analyzes post-market data to identify and prioritize usability issues faced by customers, providing actionable insights to improve product design and user satisfaction. Analyzes the cognitive, physical, and situational contexts of product usage through a systems thinking approach, ensuring that all aspects of the user experience are thoroughly considered.
- Plans, conducts, and reports usability studies (formative & summative evaluations) in compliance with relevant privacy and usability regulations. Conducts comprehensive usability risk analyses (Usability FMEA) to identify and document potential use errors. Creates the necessary usability documentation to ensure compliance with medical device regulations, maintaining detailed records that support regulatory submissions and product approvals.
- Delivers and presents comprehensive usability inputs to the project team, including R&D, Marketing, Clinical, UI/UX Design, Medical Affairs, Medical Safety, Development Engineering, and Systems Engineering, ensuring that usability considerations are integrated into all stages of product development.
- Owns and also participate in usability impact assessments and design reviews to improve product performance and user experience.
You're the right fit if: - You've acquired 2+ years of experience in usability/human factors engineering, requirements management, including usability and design risk management (like Usability FMEA). Experience in qualitative and quantitative research.
- Your skills include effective communication skills, stakeholder management and project management skills (planning, monitoring, escalation, etc.) You also bring skills in product quality and reliability, market research and analysis, regulatory requirements, risk assessments, product development lifecycle management, technical documentation, and UI/UX design aligned with the ISO 9241 series.
- You have a Bachelor's, required, Master's Degree, nice to have, in Engineering, preferably Human Factor's Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Bioengineering, or a related field.
- You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
- You're a strong coordinator with experience in the medical device industry.
How we work togetherWe believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company's facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company's main facilities, generally at the customers' or suppliers' locations.

Philips Transparency Details The pay range for this position in New Kensington, PA is $114,750 to $183,600.
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives may be offered.
