Position Overview
Russell Tobin is seeking a Senior Server Engineer to support a leading global financial services organization. This role is responsible for architecting, supporting, and optimizing a large-scale production Windows server environment within a mission-critical trading infrastructure.
The engineer will play a key role in performance monitoring, infrastructure strategy, operational support, and platform resiliency across enterprise Windows systems.
Position Objectives
- Architect and provide expert-level support for the production Windows server environment.
- Maintain proactive performance monitoring utilizing enterprise monitoring tools.
- Support day-to-day operations, administration, and infrastructure initiatives.
- Ensure stability, performance, and availability of all Windows servers and related platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Support a trading environment consisting of Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Participate in planning and implementation of new infrastructure projects.
- Proactively monitor virtual environments for capacity, risk, and performance issues.
- Build and support Microsoft Failover Clusters and stretch clusters.
- Maintain Windows environments across the Americas region.
- Partner with vendors and global internal teams to ensure platform standards compliance.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives.
- Maintain high reliability, availability, and resiliency across systems.
- Provide Level 1–3 production support.
- Perform proactive system monitoring using tools such as Geneos and Dynatrace.
- Execute system upgrades, patching, and security remediation.
- Collaborate with application teams to design and deploy infrastructure solutions.
- Lead project implementations across business lines.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and weekend support as required.
- Conduct daily health checks on critical systems.
- Follow change management and incident management procedures.
- Ensure systems align with enterprise standards and best practices.
- Own incident and problem management resolution.
- Maintain security compliance across infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain accurate system inventory and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of Windows Server engineering experience.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012.
- Strong expertise in:
- Active Directory
- DNS, DHCP/WINS, Registries
- Microsoft clustering technologies (Failover Clustering, Load Balancing)
- VMware vSphere experience (vCenter, SRM).
- Strong SAN/EMC storage knowledge, including SRDF.
- Experience installing Windows Server 2016+ on enterprise hardware (Dell, IBM, blade servers).
- Strong performance management and capacity planning experience.
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, SNMP, subnetting, routing).
- Database exposure (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase) and MQ Series.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hyper-V experience.
- IIS and .NET administration.
- F5 load balancer experience.
- Dynatrace monitoring experience.
- Experience in financial services or trading environments.
