At this time, we are seeking a Tooling Design/Quoting Engineer to be responsible for designing and developing permanent mold tooling for new and existing aluminum casting programs while preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for prospective work.

Job DetailsResponsibilities
- Design, develop, and test permanent mold and semi-permanent mold tooling for aluminum casting applications
- Create and modify tooling drawings and 3D models using CAD software
- Conduct feasibility analysis on new program inquiries to determine tooling requirements, casting approach, and process design
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotes for tooling and casting programs based on customer part drawings and specifications
- Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to optimize part geometry for the permanent mold casting process
- Collaborate with sales, foundry, machining, and quality teams to ensure tooling designs align with customer requirements and internal capabilities
- Perform calculations and simulations to analyze tooling designs and optimize casting solidification and performance
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure tooling reliability, dimensional accuracy, and casting consistency
- Troubleshoot and resolve tooling-related issues during new program launches and ongoing production
- Maintain an understanding of Stahl's full-service capabilities including heat treat, CNC machining, and finishing to develop comprehensive, competitive quotes
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in permanent mold casting technology and tooling materials
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in tooling design, preferably within a permanent mold aluminum casting or foundry environment
- Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting (SolidWorks, CREO, or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, GD&T, and aluminum casting process fundamentals
- Experience with cost estimating, quoting, or new program development is highly desirable
- Familiarity with CNC machining, logic controllers, and MATLAB is a plus
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and interface directly with customers
