AI Developer (Tooling & Enablement)
Location: Beaverton, Oregon
Duration: 12 month minimum contract w/extensions
Top must-have skills include the following:
Golang, Python, and Typescript. Must have Cursor (AI coding tool).
On-site role at Beaverton, OR; typical work hours, WFH Fridays
HM anticipates 2 rounds of interviews, 1 virtual and 1 on-site
GitHub certification preferred, not required
10+ years’ experience required in a software engineering role

Candidate will help support administration of GitHub and Cursor, as well as integrations between other systems
Lead engineer on an immediate team of 2 others; will also work directly with 3 other squads, ~12-15 people total
Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to serve as the technical anchor for our AI Developer Tooling & Enablement platform. This role operates at a Principal Software Engineer level, combining deep hands‑on engineering, platform stewardship, and enterprise‑scale governance across GitHub, Cursor, Claude, and emerging AI development tools.
The Lead Software Engineer will own the technical strategy, architecture, and execution for AI‑powered developer tooling used by thousands of engineers globally, while partnering closely with Product, Security, Legal, Finance, and Vendor Management. This role fills a critical capability gap by unifying platform engineering excellence, AI tooling expertise, and enterprise systems leadership into a single accountable technical owner.
Technical Leadership & Platform Stewardship
Lead architecture, administration, and long-term strategy for GitHub, Cursor, Claude, and enterprise AI dev tooling.
Define and scale standards, patterns, and best practices for AI developer platforms.
AI Tooling Strategy & Incubation
Drive POCs and incubation efforts (background agents, Claude evaluation, BYOM enablement).
Implement SCIM integrations for automated access control, team management, and cost allocation.
Transition experimental AI capabilities into secure, production-ready platforms.
GitHub & AI Platform Ownership
Own governance and operations for GitHub, Copilot, Cursor, and related AI tooling.
Provide end-to-end product support for large-scale engineering usage.
Partner with GitHub, Anysphere, and Anthropic on roadmap alignment and feature evaluation.
Lead SOX/security audits and automate license management, compliance, and reporting.
Maintain automation frameworks and contribute to open/inner-source initiatives.
Drive GitHub ecosystem optimization (org structure, repo strategy, governance).
Engineering & Platform Development
Build and maintain Backstage plugins (AI Tools portal, GitHub insights, admin controls).
Contribute hands-on to CI/CD, platform tooling, dashboards, and backend services.
Develop automation and visibility tooling for usage, cost, and optimization insights.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
Serve on AI Dev Tools review committee.
Lead MCP server approvals and ensure security, compliance, and responsible-AI alignment.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner across engineering, security, legal, and platform teams.
Provide enterprise guidance on GitHub strategy, CI/CD patterns, SDLC, and developer experience.
