Job Details

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC machines used in the production of precision carbide cutting tools.
  • Manufacture custom and standard cutting tools, including end mills, drills, reamers, thread mills, and form tools.
  • Perform precision grinding operations to achieve required cutting geometries, surface finishes, and dimensional tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Select appropriate grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters based on part specifications.
  • Perform machine setups, tool offsets, adjustments, and program modifications as needed.
  • Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and other precision measurement equipment.
  • Identify and correct dimensional discrepancies, tool wear, and machining defects.
  • Troubleshoot machine performance, grinding processes, and quality issues to minimize scrap and downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production records and inspection documentation.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production personnel to improve machining processes, quality, and efficiency.
  • Follow established safety procedures and quality standards throughout manufacturing operations.

Qualifications - Needed
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training or certification in CNC machining, precision grinding, or toolmaking preferred.
  • 2+ years of CNC machining or precision grinding experience preferred, ideally involving carbide cutting tools or tool and cutter grinding.
  • Experience independently setting up and operating CNC machining or grinding equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting-tool geometry, and precision manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and dimensional specifications.
  • Experience working with tight tolerances and precision measuring instruments.
  • Familiarity with carbide materials, grinding wheels, and tooling applications strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform machine offsets, setup adjustments, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Experience manufacturing end mills, drills, reamers, or custom form tools highly desirable.
  • CNC programming or program-editing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with specialized CNC tool-grinding equipment, such as ANCA, Walter, TTGBs, Saacke or Rollomatic, is a plus rather than an assumed requirement.
