Role Overview
This senior-level engineering role is responsible for designing, planning, analyzing, and implementing advanced network systems. The position focuses on IP/MPLS core, carrier Ethernet, cellular data core, and video transport environments, requiring independent engineering judgment and leadership in complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Designs and deploys complex IP/MPLS and transport solutions using standard telecom engineering principles, ensuring high availability, redundancy, and scalability.
- Leads the planning and implementation of new systems and major network upgrades.
- Defines KPIs for operational performance and service assurance.
- Develops and maintains engineering documentation, diagrams, and training materials.
- Collaborates with leadership to define long-term architecture strategies and provides technical input for customer-facing projects.
- Coaches junior engineers and technicians, providing technical direction and knowledge transfer.
- Handles advanced troubleshooting and manages escalations through to resolution.
Required Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Technologies, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is also required.
Experience: Six years of progressive engineering experience in IT, telecommunications, or network design and implementation is required. Candidates must have a proven ability to manage complex engineering projects under deadlines.
Technical Skills: Expertise is required in the following areas:
- Routing Protocols: BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, EIGRP.
- Transport Technologies: Ethernet, SONET, TDM, Fiber, Microwave, Satellite, Wi-Fi, Cellular.
- Layer-2 Ethernet Technologies: VLANs, STP, LACP, MC-LAG.
- Platforms & Tools: Experience with Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, Ciena, Infinera, Ribbon, BTI, Fujitsu, and Calix systems. Proficiency with transport tools (OTDR, DACS) and CLI tools (PuTTY, SecureCRT) is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the telecommunications industry.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP/JNCIE, Nokia NRS I/II, SCTE, PCNSA/PCNSE, or Professional Engineer (PE).
