Job Summary

Battelle is designing and building wideband phased array systems for government and commercial customers. This position would build upon electrical engineering and radio frequency engineering principles to assist in the test and verification of components and integrated systems. We are currently seeking a Radio Frequency Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, Ohio. Application deadline: October 23rd, 2026

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data from RF test equipment including power network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators. Reduce data in Excel and Matlab to assess performance.
• Support analysis of spectrum usage data and filtering strategies for wideband systems.
• Develop test bench software to accelerate and automate testing of complex RF systems in Matlab, python, GNURadio etc.
• Design, simulate, and test RF and microwave circuits and systems
• RF modeling and simulation using engineering software tools
• Actively contribute design reviews, team meetings, and project discussions

Key Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing a bachelor degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering or engineering physics
• Ability to interpret schematics, technical drawings, and test results
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Basic understanding of RF principles, electromagnetic theory, and wireless communications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using lab instruments such as VNAs, spectrum analyzers, or oscilloscopes
• Understanding of impedance matching, S-parameters, and RF test methods
• Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, ADS, HFSS, CST, or similar simulation software

Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
