Solutions Architect – Applications (Nashville, TN)

Role Overview

The Solutions Architect will support Enterprise Applications group, serving as a hands-on, business-facing technical leader who works closely with application leads to ensure consistent architecture, delivery quality, and alignment with client standards.

This role is expected to be deeply engaged in day-to-day application work, consistently present in technical and business meetings, and capable of providing architectural guidance directly to senior business leaders, including VPs. The ideal candidate will be local to Nashville to enable strong collaboration, relationship building, and ongoing alignment with client culture.

Key Responsibilities

Application Oversight & Partnership

• Work closely with application leads to understand how applications are designed, built, and supported.
• Review application architecture, delivery practices, and technical decisions, identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
• Act as a trusted partner helping teams succeed while raising architectural concerns early.

Hands-On Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and planning sessions.
• Stay hands-on with architecture, integrations, and modernization initiatives.
• Develop a deep understanding of current and target architecture.

Business & Executive Engagement

• Represent Applications architecture in meetings with business stakeholders and VPs.
• Clearly explain technical concepts, tradeoffs, and recommendations using client language.
• Provide pragmatic guidance aligned with business outcomes.

Consistency & Standards

• Promote consistent architectural patterns and engineering standards.
• Identify technical debt, risks, and cross-application dependencies.
• Escalate concerns constructively when needed.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Enterprise application architecture (monolithic, modular monolith, service-oriented designs).
• API-first design, RESTful services, and system integration patterns.
• Cloud-native architecture with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB preferred).
• Strong experience with relational databases, including Oracle, SQL Server and Azure SQL, and the ability to design, review, and optimize data models and queries in enterprise application environments.
• CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing strategies.
• Application modernization and technical debt reduction.
• Security, scalability, performance, and reliability considerations in enterprise systems.
• Ability to review code, architecture diagrams, and technical designs.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, and production support models.
• Practical understanding of AI-assisted software development (e.g., Copilot and similar tools) to improve developer productivity, code quality, and consistency.
• Awareness of governance, risk, and ethical considerations related to AI usage in enterprise environments.
• Ability to review code, architecture diagrams, and technical designs, including AI-influenced implementations.

Required Qualifications

• Experience as a Solutions Architect, Software Architect, or Technical Lead in enterprise environments.
• Proven experience with enterprise applications, cloud platforms (Azure preferred), APIs, and integrations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills suitable for VP-level discussions.
• Local to Nashville or able to be on-site regularly.
• Ability to adapt communication style to client culture and business expectations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in utilities, regulated industries, or large-enterprise environments.
• Prior experience acting as an architectural bridge between business leaders and delivery teams.
• Background combining hands-on development with architectural leadership.
