Taylor County is seeking applications for the position of Network Administrator. General Description:Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, this position is responsible for supporting and maintaining the County's network infrastructure and related systems. This includes configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network equipment, firewalls, and connectivity across multiple locations. The position also assists with maintaining secure and reliable access to systems and services, supports virtualization and related infrastructure, and ensures systems are operating in accordance with established standards and best practices. Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed:- Strong knowledge of network fundamentals, including subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, ACLs, and NAT in a Cisco environment
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs (remote access and site-to-site), and network security features
- Working knowledge of IPS, secure DNS, and general cybersecurity best practices
- Experience with Meraki dashboard, access points, and network devices
- Experience supporting virtualized datacenter environments and network components within those systems
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network and connectivity issues across multiple sites
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to support non-technical users
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Typical Duties:- Configures, monitors, and maintains network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems
- Troubleshoots network performance issues and connectivity problems across County locations
- Manages and supports remote access and site-to-site VPN connections
- Implements and maintains network security measures, including firewall rules, ACLs, and intrusion prevention systems
- Assists with administration of virtual networking components within the County's virtualized environment
- Monitors systems for performance, availability, and security issues, and responds as needed
- Assists with planning and implementing network upgrades, expansions, and changes
- Documents configurations, changes, and procedures
Additional Information:- Work is primarily performed indoors with occasional outdoor exposure
- Travel within the county to various County offices is required
- Occasional evening or weekend work hours may be required
- Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach
- Requires ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with enterprise networking equipment and firewall technologies required
- Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices
- Experience with virtualization platforms and network integration preferred
- Relevant certifications (such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent) preferred
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and pass a criminal background check
