Summary

Our client, a large professional services partner, is looking to hire a Senior z/OS Systems Administrator for 12-month remote contract to support, maintain, and automate a large-scale IBM mainframe environment. The ideal candidate brings over 10 years of deep, hands-on expertise in SMP/E and REXX scripting, alongside strong experience with z/OSMF. The consultant will work independently to handle complex troubleshooting, system upgrades, and infrastructure modernization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and support IBM z/OS operating systems and third-party software.
  • Use SMP/E extensively to manage installations, PTFs, APARs, HOLDDATA processing, and CSI zones.
  • Develop and maintain REXX scripts to automate system administration, monitoring, and operational processes.
  • Administer and utilize z/OSMF workflows, plugins, and services for system management.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on complex system issues using logs, dumps, and diagnostic tools.
  • Partner with cross-functional infrastructure teams, maintain technical documentation, and mentor junior administrators.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years of enterprise-level experience with both SMP/E and REXX scripting automation.
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with IBM z/OSMF, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and UNIX System Services (USS).
  • Proven ability to diagnose complex mainframe issues independently and manage system-level changes.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and technical communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with JES2, RACF, TCP/IP, and HMC.
  • Experience with Parallel Sysplex, WLM, RMF/SMF, and DFSMS.
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery planning and mainframe performance-monitoring tools.

The expected hourly rate range for this role is: $51.75 - $78 per hour
