Senior SRE / Backup Engineer

Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Backup Engineer with strong expertise in enterprise backup, cyber recovery, automation, and platform resiliency. The ideal candidate will design and operate secure, highly available, and automated backup/recovery solutions that protect critical systems against operational failures and ransomware.

Key Responsibilities & Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in Backup Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or SRE.
  • Strong experience with enterprise backup platforms such as Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect, Data Domain, Dell Cyber Recovery, Rubrik, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, or Veeam.
  • Hands-on experience with immutable backups, air-gapped vaults, Clean Rooms, Isolated Recovery Environments (IRE), ransomware recovery, and recovery orchestration.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including cloud-native backup and hybrid/cross-region recovery.
  • Strong infrastructure knowledge: VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Linux, Windows Server, Active Directory, and enterprise storage.
  • Automation experience with Ansible, Terraform, Python, PowerShell, Bash, GitHub/GitHub Actions, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, or ServiceNow for monitoring and observability.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust, IAM, MFA, encryption/key management, NIST, and secure recovery practices.
  • Experience defining SLOs, SLIs, RPO/RTO, conducting RCA, incident response, and reliability improvements.
  • Experience conducting cyber recovery, disaster recovery, clean-room, air-gap, and isolated recovery testing.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
