Role Overview
This position is for a Principal Engineer focusing on Storage and Data Protection. The role involves providing senior-level engineering leadership for enterprise storage and data protection platforms. It centers on storage architecture, data protection design, cyber resiliency, and lifecycle management. This is a senior engineering role focused on platform standards, automation, and infrastructure delivery, requiring both solution design and hands-on implementation experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of enterprise storage and data protection solutions across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Act as the technical product owner for storage and data protection services, including standards, roadmap development, and lifecycle planning.
- Develop and maintain storage and backup standards, reference architectures, and operational support models.
- Support Dell EMC enterprise storage platforms (Isilon, PowerMax) and Brocade SAN fabric.
- Support Rubrik as the primary enterprise data protection platform.
- Lead cyber resiliency engineering efforts, including immutable backups and ransomware recovery.
- Define and implement automation for storage and data protection operations using Ansible, REST APIs, and Terraform.
- Support cloud storage and data protection strategy across AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for storage, SAN fabric, backup, and recovery issues.
- Partner with infrastructure, cloud, cyber, and application teams on cross-functional projects.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, with 5+ years in hands-on storage and/or data protection engineering. A deep hands-on engineering background with architecture-level capability is required, along with experience in roadmap development and lifecycle planning.
Technical Skills:- VMware (VCSA, hypervisor expertise).
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
- Dell EMC enterprise storage platforms (Isilon/PowerScale, PowerMax).
- Brocade SAN fabric technologies.
- Rubrik platform management.
- Cyber resiliency, immutable backups, and ransomware recovery.
- Automation using Ansible, REST APIs, Terraform, Git, and CI/CD practices.
- AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform storage services and cloud backup patterns.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform storage and backup services.
- Experience with DDVE in AWS.
- Experience with Dell Data Domain, PowerProtect, Avamar, or Networker.
- Experience with NetApp ONTAP.
- Experience working in regulated or security-focused enterprise environments.
- Relevant storage, backup, cloud, automation, or security certifications are preferred (e.g., Dell Technologies, Rubrik, AWS, Google Cloud, Terraform, Ansible).
