Position Overview:

We are seeking a Warranty Analysis Engineer to investigate and resolve automotive warranty-related failures across Engines OR Transmission & Driveline OR HVAC OR Engine Systems. The engineer will analyze returned components, identify failure mechanisms and root causes, and work with plant, supplier, manufacturing, quality, and design/release engineering teams to implement corrective actions.

Candidates with strong warranty experience in any one of these domains will be considered. Relevant experience in other automotive areas such as Chassis OR Brakes may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed analysis of warranty claims and returned components across Engines OR Transmission & Driveline OR HVAC OR Engine Systems.
  • Investigate high-impact warranty issues based on warranty cost, customer dissatisfaction, claim frequency, vehicle age, mileage, and overall business impact.
  • Conduct component teardown, inspection, testing, and failure analysis to determine the origin and progression of failures.
  • Identify failure mechanisms such as failure initiation, fatigue, wear, fracture, thermal degradation, and material-related failures.
  • Perform structured root cause analysis using methodologies such as:
    • 8D
    • 5 Why
    • Fishbone/Ishikawa
    • Fault Tree Analysis
    • FMEA
  • Work closely with supplier, plant, manufacturing, quality, service, and design/release engineering teams to investigate and resolve warranty concerns.
  • Determine whether failures are related to design, manufacturing, assembly, material, supplier, or process conditions.
  • Support containment, corrective action, rework, repair, replacement, and disposition decisions for failed components.
  • Review engineering drawings, CAD data, GD&T, material specifications, tolerance requirements, validation results, and test reports.
  • Analyze warranty and field data to identify recurring failures, trends, mileage/age patterns, and areas of high warranty exposure.
  • Prioritize issues based on cost, customer impact, failure rate, safety/reliability concerns, and business risk.
  • Prepare technical investigation reports, failure summaries, root-cause documentation, and corrective-action recommendations.
  • Participate in supplier technical reviews and collaborate with suppliers to implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support manufacturing plants in identifying production or process-related contributors to field failures.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities focused on warranty cost reduction, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Follow automotive quality and product development processes, including APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, and PFMEA.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Warranty Engineering
    • Warranty Analysis
    • Product Engineering
    • Design & Release Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Quality Engineering
    • Failure Analysis
    • Reliability Engineering
  • Strong automotive engineering fundamentals with experience in Engines OR Transmission & Driveline OR HVAC OR Engine Systems.
  • Hands-on experience with warranty problem solving, component teardown, diagnostics, and failure investigation.
  • Strong understanding of root cause analysis and failure mechanisms, including failure initiation and fatigue.
  • Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing plants to identify and resolve product issues.
  • Automotive HVAC warranty/problem-solving experience is highly preferred for HVAC-focused positions.
  • Candidates with warranty experience in other automotive domains, such as Chassis OR Brakes, may also be considered.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD information, GD&T, technical specifications, and test/validation reports.
  • Experience analyzing warranty databases and field data to identify trends and recurring failures.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering/quality data analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with an automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier.
  • Direct warranty experience in Engines OR Transmission & Driveline OR HVAC OR Engine Systems.
  • Experience in Design & Release OR Manufacturing Engineering OR Product Engineering.
  • Experience conducting supplier investigations and leading cross-functional corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of automotive warranty and quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, statistical analysis, and reliability engineering.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and automotive quality processes.
  • Experience with vehicle diagnostics and field/service data analysis.
  • Exposure to hybrid/electric powertrain systems is a plus.
  • Strong ability to adapt quickly, manage multiple investigations, and work effectively in a dynamic engineering environment.
