Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead IBM MQ & ACE Platform Engineer (SLO) to provide technical leadership, architecture, administration, and operational ownership of enterprise messaging platforms. This role will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of IBM MQ and IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE/IIB) environments across Linux, Windows, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in enterprise messaging infrastructure, platform engineering, middleware administration, DevOps automation, security, incident management, and service reliability.


Key Responsibilities

IBM MQ & ACE Platform Administration

  • Design, build, administer, and support IBM MQ and IBM ACE/IIB environments.
  • Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Design and manage enterprise messaging infrastructure supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Architect MQ client/server connectivity, clustering, queue managers, HA/DR, and logging strategies.
  • Lead platform lifecycle initiatives and modernization efforts.
  • Manage MQ migrations and platform upgrades across Linux environments.
  • Support MQ API integrations and application connectivity requirements.

Service Ownership & Operations

  • Serve as the Service Level Owner (SLO) for MQ and ACE platforms.
  • Ensure platform availability, reliability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Provide 24x7 production support and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management activities.
  • Drive reduction of MTTR through proactive monitoring and operational improvements.

Infrastructure Engineering & Security

  • Implement and manage LDAP, TLS/MTLS, channel authentication, and authorization controls.
  • Collaborate with security, firewall, networking, load-balancing, and infrastructure teams.
  • Design and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security and operational standards.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboard solutions using:
    • Prometheus
    • Grafana
    • Enterprise monitoring tools
  • Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and platform risks.
  • Establish reliability metrics and operational KPIs.

Automation & DevOps

  • Develop and maintain automation solutions using:
    • Jenkins
    • Ansible
    • Python
    • Shell scripting
  • Automate provisioning, configuration management, deployments, and operational processes.
  • Support containerized and Kubernetes-based monitoring and operational tooling.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with application development, engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams.
  • Support application onboarding, queue setup, channel configuration, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Provide regular project status, risk assessments, and technical updates to leadership.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across messaging initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of IBM MQ administration and engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of IBM ACE/IIB administration experience.
  • Strong experience supporting enterprise-scale messaging infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Queue Managers
    • Clustering
    • Channels
    • HA/DR Architectures
    • Logging and Recovery
  • Experience administering Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Experience with LDAP, TLS/MTLS, and enterprise security integrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident management expertise.
  • Experience supporting large-scale production environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms.
  • Experience with Jenkins, Ansible, and Python automation.
  • Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • Experience implementing observability solutions using Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Experience leading globally distributed teams.
