DESCRIPTION:
Join our collaborative team as a Senior Software Engineering Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you'll lead software development initiatives that advance scientific discovery and improve lives. You'll support engineering teams in developing innovative solutions across our portfolio, from cloud platforms and AI applications to laboratory automation and diagnostic systems. In this role, you'll promote technical excellence, encourage innovation, and support teams to deliver high-quality software that serves our mission of enabling customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

Working closely with cross-functional partners, you'll set strategic direction, implement agile methodologies, and ensure successful delivery of complex software projects. You'll mentor and develop talent, build collaborative relationships across teams, and facilitate continuous improvement in our software development practices. This role offers the opportunity to work with emerging technologies while solving meaningful challenges in scientific instrumentation, laboratory informatics, and digital transformation.

REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience, with software development including 5+ years in technical leadership or management roles
Preferred Fields of Study: Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field. Work experience can substitute for a formal degree.
Advanced technical certifications such as PMP or cloud certifications advantageous
Strong expertise in modern software development practices, architectures, and methodologies (Agile/SAFe)
Experience successfully leading and developing engineering teams
Experience with cloud technologies (AWS/Azure), microservices, and DevOps practices

Experience with, Kubernetes, preferably Amazon EKS, Observability systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry) and , CI/CD platforms, preferably GitHub Actions

Demonstrated ability to drive technical strategy and roadmap planning
Strong understanding of software quality, security, and compliance requirements
Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills

Strong architectural and operational judgment without needing to be hands-on daily.

Data-driven decision making and structured problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with AI/ML technologies and data-driven development preferred
Knowledge of scientific or laboratory software domains beneficial
Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Experience delivering projects in complex technical environments
Experience managing distributed teams preferred
