Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer – Java to lead the design, development, modernization, and delivery of scalable enterprise applications within a large banking environment.
The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, Cloud, SQL/NoSQL, event-driven architecture, and CI/CD, along with proven experience providing technical leadership across complex enterprise applications.
The Lead Engineer will remain hands-on while providing technical direction, establishing engineering standards, conducting code/design reviews, mentoring developers, and partnering with architecture, product, security, DevOps, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, development, testing, and implementation of enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and develop scalable microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across the complete software development lifecycle.
- Define application architecture, engineering standards, design patterns, and development best practices.
- Design highly available, resilient, secure, and scalable solutions for business-critical banking applications.
- Develop and integrate APIs with internal banking platforms and third-party systems.
- Design and implement event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
- Work with relational and NoSQL databases and optimize application/database performance.
- Build and deploy applications in AWS or other enterprise cloud environments.
- Develop containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Implement automated CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or equivalent platforms.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to coding, security, performance, and architecture standards.
- Troubleshoot complex application and production issues and lead root-cause analysis.
- Implement application monitoring, logging, observability, and production-support practices.
- Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Business Analysts, QA, Security, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams.
- Mentor software engineers and provide technical guidance to onsite and offshore development teams.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, estimation, planning, dependency management, and release activities.
- Ensure applications meet banking requirements around security, resiliency, data protection, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
- Drive modernization of legacy applications toward cloud-native, API-first, and microservices-based architectures.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 11/17/21
- Strong expertise in Spring Boot and Spring Framework
- Strong experience designing and developing Microservices
- Strong REST API / Web Services development experience
- Experience with Kafka / event-driven architecture / messaging
- Strong experience with SQL and relational databases
- Experience with AWS / Cloud-native development
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and object-oriented design
- Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with unit/integration testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
- Experience with application monitoring, logging, and observability
- Strong understanding of secure coding and application security
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum engineering teams
