Summary

You are already an expert in your field. You are a Professional Engineer (P.E.)with 15 or more years of hands-on Electrical Engineering experience and a comprehensive understanding of electric utilities (investor-owned, public power, and/or cooperatives).

This role asks you to bring this same set of skills to a different challenge: determining why an incident occurred. You will work alongside nationally respected experts on casework that is consequential to industry and society, and you will keep learning for the rest of your career.

Prior forensic experience is not required. We hire for deep industry knowledge. Robson Forensic will train you to apply your expertise in a forensic setting, based on our experience of nearly 40 years in providing expert witness services.

What you will do:

  • Investigate incidents involving design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, and devices.
  • Analyze applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, standards of care, and safety aspects.
  • Write clear, scientifically sound reports.
  • Provide expert testimony.

You will delve into the "why" behind incidents, critically assessing decision-making, operational practices, and the standards of care.

What we require:

  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: 15+ years of electrical engineering experience, including experience with electric utilities (investor-owned, public power, and/or cooperatives), design, construction, operation, & maintenance of electrical systems, equipment, & devices
  • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of federal/state/local laws, rules, regs, codes, standards of care, & safety aspects.
  • Skills: Excellent technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Aptitude: Strong ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, objective evidence for non-technical audiences.
  • Other: A clean background screen, a driver's license, and the ability to drive.

Experience that helps, though not required:
  • Project management
  • Lineman
  • Supervision of linemen or service technicians

Work style:

Approximately 20% of the role is travel for training, inspections, and providing sworn testimony on your investigative findings at a deposition or trial. The remainder is investigation, analysis, and report writing, working independently and as part of a collaborative team. Our experts offer and receive support/mentoring in a firm with over 100 scientists, engineers, and other professionals and manage a portfolio of 50-70 projects/clients.
