Position Overview
The Senior PI Historian Developer plays a critical role in designing, developing, and enhancing PI Historian based solutions that support Transmission & Distribution (T&D) business needs. This role is heavily focused on development, analytics, and system extensibility, serving as a subject-matter expert for complex client requests and advanced technical issues across the PI ecosystem.
The successful candidate will lead the development of PI analytics, custom integrations, and applications while ensuring the PI Historian platform remains scalable, secure, and operationally supportable. This role requires deep hands-on experience with PI development, scripting, and .NET-based solutions, along with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve highly complex real-time system issues.
Key Responsibilities PI Solution Design & Development
- Design and develop PI Historian based solutions by translating business and operational requirements into scalable, supportable technical designs.
- Lead development of PI Analytics, AF models, custom calculations, and reporting solutions to support T&D operational and analytical use cases.
- Develop and maintain custom applications, scripts, and services that extend PI functionality using Python, shell scripting, and C#/.NET.
- Implement and enhance custom integrations, interfaces, and adapters for data ingestion and system interoperability.
- Advanced Troubleshooting & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a technical escalation point for highly complex PI Historian, analytics, and integration issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis on real-time data flow, performance, and availability issues across PI components.
- Provide expert-level support for system enhancements, upgrades, and architecture improvements.
- Testing, Validation & Deployment
- Plan and execute structured and exploratory testing for PI analytics, interfaces, and custom applications.
- Support end-user testing and validation of new PI features, analytics, and reporting solutions.
- Ensure developed solutions are production-ready, maintainable, and aligned with operational support models.
- Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT teams, and vendors to design and deliver PI-based solutions.
- Act as a PI subject-matter expert, providing consultation and technical guidance to internal teams.
- Document solution designs, development standards, and operational runbooks to support long-term sustainability.
- Governance, Security & Compliance
- Ensure all development and system changes comply with SCE cybersecurity, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply secure coding practices and participate in architecture and security reviews as required.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant IT or Engineering experience supporting data platforms, analytics solutions, or real-time systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience implementing and developing with AVEVA/OSIsoft PI System in a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing issues in real-time and near-real-time systems.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining Python and shell scripts in production environments.
- Strong C# / .NET development experience, including building services or applications that integrate with PI.
- Experience with PI integrations, custom adapters, and interface development.
- Knowledge of Transmission & Distribution grids, SCADA environments, and/or Distribution Management Systems (DMS).
- Experience performing data analysis, analytics development, and reporting for operational systems.
- Proficiency with SQL querying, reporting platforms, and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
