Description

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Quality and Configuration Management Specialist to join our team. This hybrid position bridges the gap between quality management systems (QMS) and hardware/software configuration management (CM). The ideal candidate will establish, maintain, and audit configuration baselines, manage engineering change processes, and ensure cross-functional adherence to industry quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory frameworks. This role is based in Huntsville, AL.

Key Responsibilities

Configuration Management
  • Establish, control, and audit baseline configurations for product documentation, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, specifications, and related artifacts throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Facilitate and administer the Engineering Change Order (ECO/ECN) and Change Control Board (CCB) processes, ensuring all revisions are thoroughly reviewed, validated, and approved prior to implementation.
  • Maintain traceability and integrity of configuration items across PLM, PDM, and ERP enterprise platforms.
  • Perform formal Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) to verify that end deliverables align precisely with approved designs and release baselines.

Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Monitor, support, and audit adherence to our Quality Management System (QMS), aligning practices with applicable industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or ISO 13485.
  • Lead non-conformance management workflows, coordinating with engineering and operations teams to execute robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Plan, schedule, and execute internal audits and supplier audits, documenting non-conformances and tracking remediation milestones.
  • Collect, analyze, and present key quality and CM metrics to leadership, focusing on change order cycle time, audit findings, scrap/rework rates, and baseline variance.

Qualifications

Required Education
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Management, Quality Assurance, or a related technical discipline. Additional six (6) years' experience can be considered in lieu of degree (per contract vehicle).

Clearance Requirements
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; ship required.

Required Experience
  • 3 to 5+ years of combined hands-on experience in quality assurance and configuration management within a structured manufacturing, aerospace, medical device, defense, or software-intensive product environment.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and administering Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems (e.g., Windchill, Arena, Teamcenter, Agile) as well as modern QMS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of relevant configuration and quality standards, such as EIA-649, MIL-STD-973, ISO 9001, AS9100, or equivalent regulatory frameworks.
  • Solid foundation in root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, 8D problem solving).
  • High attention to detail with the ability to reconcile discrepancies between technical drawings, BOM hierarchies, and physical assemblies.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate change control discussions across engineering, supply chain, and executive stakeholders.
  • Industry certifications are strongly preferred, such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or CMPIC Configuration Management Certification.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
  • This role operates on a hybrid schedule consisting of dedicated remote workdays and required on-site days for conducting physical configuration audits, inspecting incoming and finished goods, and participating in change reviews. Occasional light lifting (up to 25 lbs) and routine walking through manufacturing or warehouse areas may be required during audit activities.
