Job Description:
Job Summary
The Electronic Avionics Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing units down to the Shop Replaceable Unit (SRU) and component levels. This role requires strong expertise in using digital measurement tools, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, and circuit analysis to accurately isolate faults and perform repairs on complex electronic systems.
Essential Job Functions
* Conduct standard testing procedures on various equipment and validate the results.
* Perform repairs on aviation units in compliance with FAA regulations and in accordance with the Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) requirements.
* Disassemble, clean, and visually inspect parts to identify issues or wear.
* Reassemble parts, ensuring all measurements meet specified tolerances and requirements.
* Accurately track and document all activities, maintaining proper control of parts.
* Help maintain shop compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
* Contribute to process improvements aimed at reducing cycle time.
* Ensure strict adherence to quality standards, with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction.
* Apply maintenance manuals to evaluate and determine the acceptability of components.
* Regularly update work order information in the ERP system.
* Follow established procedures, making adjustments as necessary and promptly notifying supervisors; recommend expenditures as needed.
* Safeguard confidential and sensitive information to protect SEDA"s reputation and competitive position.
* Comply with all safety, health, and environmental regulations, actively supporting Client HSE policies and remaining vigilant for potential hazards when adopting new skills or equipment.
* Other duties may be assigned.
Electronic Avionics Technician I: In addition to the above, is also responsible for the following:
* Proficient in using a Digital Volt Meters (DVM) to verify component faults and confirm if parts are defective.
* Working knowledge of oscilloscopes, including proper setup and use for signal testing and diagnostics in electronic circuits.
* Skilled in soldering connectors, wiring, and switches within IPC standards.
* Experienced in the use of sleeving to protect and organize wiring harnesses.
* Proficient in wire splicing techniques to ensure reliable electrical connections.
* Competent in using crimping tools for terminals and connector assemblies.
* Ability to troubleshoot and test common electrical and electronic components such as: switches, fuses, wiring harnesses, ARINC connectors, diodes, potentiometers, LEDs and other standard circuit elements.
Electronic Avionics Technician II: In addition to the above, is also responsible for the following
* Perform detailed troubleshooting and repair of units down to the SRU level, ensuring high-quality maintenance and minimal downtime.
* Utilize Digital Volt Meters (DVM) proficiently to measure voltage, current (amps), resistance (ohms), and diode testing in circuits.
* Identify Pin 1 and accurately determine pin configurations across various connector types.
* Operate oscilloscopes to recognize and analyze signals, including frequency, peak-to-peak voltage, RMS voltage, noise, and distortion.
* Use frequency generators with a clear understanding of signal parameters, their purpose, and their impact on Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
* Interpret and troubleshoot using unit block diagrams to isolate faults efficiently.
* Read and interpret schematics to trace issues from LRU down to SRU level for accurate repair and maintenance.
* Maintain comprehensive knowledge of matrix configurations relevant to system troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Electronic Avionics Technician III: In addition to the above, is also responsible for the following:
* Troubleshoot and repair electronic units down to the component level with precision and accuracy.
* Test and evaluate capacitors, diodes, transistors, and other components using a Digital Volt Meter (DVM).
* Apply power supply theory and digital electronics principles to isolate faults effectively.
* Trace circuit problems using appropriate troubleshooting tools and techniques to identify failing components.
* Self-train on similar product lines to quickly adapt to new equipment and technologies.
* Perform soldering on through-hole and surface mount components with high quality and reliability.
* Maintain FAA Repairman Certification and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
* Fully train new technicians and team members on the product line, including processes and troubleshooting methodologies.
* Develop creative repair solutions when original parts are unavailable, including cannibalization and alternative sourcing.
* Maintain thorough knowledge of the unit"s operation and historical fault trends to improve diagnostics and repair outcomes.
Electronic Avionics Technician IV: In addition to the above, is also responsible for the following:
* Strong understanding of software and its impact on electronic functions.
* Ability to independently perform new entries in Capability P145 without engineering support.
* Proficient in troubleshooting down to the component level on new entries into Capability, without assistance from ETS.
* Capable of mentoring and assisting lower-level technicians in troubleshooting down to the component level. Must be able to assist lower-level technicians in troubleshooting down to the component level, even if they are not signed off on the LRU, including analyzing circuits and explaining findings to other technicians.
* Have a thorough understanding of LRUs and test stands, including how they work together.
* Serve as a key point of reference for Engineering support.
Required Competencies
Education/Experience
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Typical experience:
Electronic Avionics Technician I: 0-2 years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Electronic Avionics Technician II: 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Electronic Avionics Technician III: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Electronic Avionics Technician IV 8 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Basic level of Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel
* Knowledge of 5S, Lean and Kaizen methods is a plus
* Knowledge of production and repair tools and benches, instrumentation and measuring skills
* Knowledge of FAA regulations and understanding of quality requirements
* Compliance with safety rules (PPE - Personal Prevention Equipment)
* Compliance with procedures and standards - knowledge of CMM requirements

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position and occasionally move about the office and shop floor. Constantly operates and use a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copier/printer and laboratory machinery. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information. The ability to observe, identify and assess details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds across office for various needs.
