Job Summary

The AWS Application Modernization Architect is responsible for designing and leading modernization initiatives that transform legacy applications into scalable, cloud-native solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role involves defining modernization strategies, assessing existing application portfolios, and implementing best practices for re-platforming, re-architecting, and re-engineering applications to leverage AWS services effectively.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architecture & Design

• Design end-to-end cloud-native architectures leveraging AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, and CloudFront.
• Develop modernization blueprints and reference architectures for migrating monolithic applications to microservices or serverless architectures.
• Define target state architectures and transition roadmaps for application modernization.
• Ensure architectures meet scalability, performance, security, and cost optimization requirements.

2. Modernization Strategy

• Assess existing application portfolios to identify modernization opportunities (rehost, replatform, refactor, rearchitect, rebuild).
• Define modernization approaches aligned with business goals and technical feasibility.
• Lead proof-of-concept (POC) initiatives to validate modernization strategies.
• Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to prioritize modernization efforts.

3. Implementation & Delivery

• Provide technical leadership to development teams during modernization projects.
• Guide teams in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipeline implementation using AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy.
• Ensure adherence to DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Support migration of applications and data to AWS with minimal downtime.

4. Governance & Best Practices

• Establish and enforce cloud architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices.
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide recommendations for optimization.
• Ensure compliance with AWS Well-Architected Framework pillars (Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimization, and Sustainability).
• Mentor teams on cloud-native development practices and AWS services.

5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Work closely with enterprise architects, developers, DevOps engineers, and security teams.
• Partner with AWS account teams and solution architects for technical enablement and support.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (master's preferred).
• 8+ years of experience in software architecture, with at least 3+ years focused on AWS cloud solutions.
• Proven experience in modernizing legacy applications using microservices, containers, and serverless technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and IaC tools (Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity management in AWS.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional (or equivalent certification) preferred
