Summary

The Cybersecurity Awareness Specialist is responsible for delivering and continuously improving the organization's security awareness and training program. This role plays a critical part in reducing human cyber risk by educating employees at all levels on cybersecurity best practices and translating complex security concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and critical thinker with hands-on experience in cybersecurity awareness, training, or information security, and the ability to influence behavior through effective education, communication, and metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve engaging cybersecurity awareness and training programs for employees across the organization
  • Create and present compelling cybersecurity content and presentations (virtual and in-person)
  • Translate technical cybersecurity concepts (e.g., phishing, ransomware, MFA, data protection) into clear, easy-to-understand language for non-technical audiences
  • Manage and support security awareness platforms and learning management tools
  • Analyze training results and user behavior data to generate meaningful metrics, insights, and reports
  • Continuously refine training content based on metrics, emerging threats, and organizational risk priorities
  • Partner with IT, Security, HR, and Compliance teams to align training with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support cybersecurity campaigns and awareness initiatives (e.g., phishing simulations, Security Awareness Month)

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in cybersecurity awareness, information security, training, or a related role
  • Demonstrated experience training employees at multiple technical skill levels
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment

Secondary Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Experience in regulated industries (utilities, energy, finance, healthcare)
  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks, policies, or risk management concepts
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide security campaigns or awareness events
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles or instructional design
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
