Summary

This closely supervised position is a general labor position that will involve pipeline maintenance activities. This description should not be construed to contain every function/responsibility that may be required to be performed by an incumbent in this position. Incumbents are required to perform other related functions as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all job functions safely while complying with safety rules, procedures and policies.
  • Performs pipeline right-of-way activities such as pipeline locates, responding to State One Call notifications, reading pipeline alignment sheets, and communicating with landowners, contractors and other agencies.
  • Performs routine facility inspections, housekeeping, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assists pipeline specialist and maintenance crews on local projects.
  • Operates and maintains light duty vehicles, hand tools, and power equipment.
  • Supports pipeline activities as described in the standard operation manual.
  • Assists in emergency response activities as required.
  • Uses computers and windows based applications required to accomplish day-to-day activities, i.e. e-mail, spreadsheets, and other document processing as needed.
  • Maintains communications via both voice and electronic transmissions with off site pipeline companies, oil spill vendors, NuStar field locations, customers, and vendors.
  • Participates in and successfully completes all required personal training, including written and computer-based testing to validate competency and be able to successfully pass random DOT drug screens.

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience in the petroleum transportation industry or related
  • Verbal and written English communication skills
  • Well organized, self motivated and safety oriented
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
  • Able to accommodate overnight travel
  • Have and maintain a valid drivers license, pass DOT physical and background check
  • Possess ability and desire to grow with the position
  • Ability to operate facility systems including computer systems and calculators, radios, cellular phones, and GPS Units.
  • Familiarity with Fuel sampling and measurement hardware including gauging hardware, thermometers, and hydrometers. Hand tools including wrenches, screwdrivers, saws, cutters, sand blasters, hammers, pliers, shovels, and painting hardware. Line locator equipment; operate 4x4 mule or other off road vehicles
  • Familiarity with explosion meter, oxygen meter, toxic gas tester, personal floatation device, and respirator
Working Conditions:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Climbing at least 60 feet on stairs at least a few times per week.
  • Climbing at least 7 to 11 feet on ladders or scaffolding at least a few times per month.
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. at least a few times a week, with the expectations that an employee can lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance, when needed.
  • Carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for up to 50 feet on a weekly basis.
  • Walking 100 yards or more over 10 times throughout the day, with the expectations that employees could walk regularly up to 300 yards at a time for a total of 2 miles or more during a shift.
  • Walking on steep inclines for up to 15 minutes at a time.
  • Working in a crouching position several times per day for up to an hour at a time.
  • Bending and stooping several times per day for up to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Bending and twisting for up to 30 minutes at a time, including manually digging with shovels.
  • Standing in one place for up to an hour at a time.
  • Sitting for up to two hours at a time.
  • Ability to wear all appropriate personal protection equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, flame-resistant clothing, hearing protection, respirator/breathing apparatus, and/or fall protection, as required by the job activities.
  • Ability to use or operate the hand tools, power tools, precision tools, measurement devices and other tools or equipment required by the job activities.
