Title: Power BI Developer (Heavy Reporting Focus )
Duration: Short-term contract – 3 months only
Hybrid Schedule: (Tuesdays & Wednesdays onsite at OMF Corporate Building 3) Baltimore, MD
Project Scope & Responsibilities:
- Transitioning/moving away from Business Objects ? Snowflake + Power BI
- Build out Snowflake environment for operational reporting:
o Create databases, tables, and views
o Write scripts to recreate tables (using existing Postgres as the model)
o Create new views/schemas to organize data for reporting
- Recreate existing reports in Power BI (data stays the same)
- Strong analytical skills required
- Underlying knowledge of Business Objects (data sources, structure, SQL) is very helpful for migration
Team Context:
- Agile team in the GCAT space
- Team makeup: 2 analysts, 3 testers, offshore + onshore developers (mostly Java skillsets)
- Goal: Quickly build internal knowledge of Snowflake + Power BI reporting
- Other tools of interest: Tableau, etc.
What They’re Really Looking For (Top 3 Skills for Tech Assessment):
- Snowflake expertise – Ability to come in and immediately build/recreate tables, views, and organize data for reporting (this is the #1 need)
- Strong Power BI skills – Especially for business users; able to recreate complex reports quickly
- Nice-to-have: Deep Business Objects knowledge – analyze existing BO reports, trace data sources, and migrate/recreate them in the new environment
- 5+ years is great, but they care more about proven ability and overall knowledge than exact years
- Ideal candidate can hit the ground running and even teach/mentor the team on Power BI + Snowflake (even though it’s only 2 days/week)
Extension Possibility:
- Budget currently approved for 3 months only
- If the person does an outstanding job, extension is possible but not guaranteed
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer (Power BI) with deep expertise in Snowflake data warehousing and business intelligence reporting. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing Snowflake-based data solutions and building advanced reports and dashboards in Power BI. The ideal candidate also understands legacy BusinessObjects reporting environments and can support or migrate reporting assets as needed. This position requires strong technical skills, data modeling experience, and the ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize data models and pipelines within Snowflake.
- Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance-tuned transformations.
- Build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using Snowflake as a data source.
- Develop semantic models and optimize data for reporting performance.
- Participate in migration of BusinessObjects reports to Power BI where applicable.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and refine reporting requirements.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and governance best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data and reporting performance issues.
- Document technical designs, data flows, and reporting logic.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of software development or data engineering experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Snowflake (data modeling, performance tuning, query optimization).
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Strong experience building reports and dashboards in Power BI.
- Experience with SAP BusinessObjects reporting tools.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts (star schema, dimensional modeling).
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources (ETL/ELT processes).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
