Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior PostgreSQL DBA to manage and support large-scale, mission-critical PostgreSQL environments. The role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and cloud-based deployments. The candidate will work closely with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to ensure database reliability, scalability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments
• Perform minor and major PostgreSQL version upgrades with minimal downtime
• Design and manage backup and restore strategies, including Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR)
• Implement and maintain database replication and high-availability solutions
• Monitor and troubleshoot performance issues including:
  • Load average
  • Locks and blocking sessions
  • Long-running SQL queries
• Tune PostgreSQL configuration parameters and analyze system catalogs and statistics
• Perform routine database maintenance tasks (vacuum, analyze, reindexing, housekeeping)
• Support multi-terabyte PostgreSQL databases in high-transaction environments
• Deploy and manage PostgreSQL in cloud environments (AWS RDS/EC2 or Google Cloud Platform)
• Implement high-availability solutions such as Repmgr, PgPool, or EFM
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application and infrastructure needs
• Work in containerized and Kubernetes-based environments where PostgreSQL is deployed
• Proactively identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements
• Independently learn and adopt new database and cloud technologies

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture
• Hands-on experience with:
  • Backup and restore strategies
  • Replication and PITR
  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting
• Experience administering large-scale (multi-terabyte) PostgreSQL databases
• Exposure to PostgreSQL deployments in AWS or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with high-availability frameworks (Repmgr, PgPool, EFM)
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL configuration parameters and system tables
• Experience supporting high-volume, mission-critical database systems
• Hands-on exposure to Kubernetes or containerization technologies
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across technical and business teams
