We are currently looking for a Cybersecurity Intern to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO.

Responsibilities:

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly motivated cybersecurity, computer scientist, computer engineer, or cyber engineering student for an internship position in our Colorado Springs, CO office. The intern will learn the fundamentals of Risk Management Framework (RMF), Assessment and Authorization (A&A) activities, security controls, governance, risk, and compliance, and assist with the analysis of compliance and regulation trends to help to determine possible courses of action. The supporting team includes subject matter experts in cybersecurity and program management. This is an onsite position.

The cybersecurity internship is designed to provide exposure to a variety of security tasks that one should expect a junior or entry-level cyber security professional to perform. These include learning and assisting with the RMF lifecycle including preparation for and following up on A&A activities. The intern will learn to plan for conducting assessments to identify and mitigate threats. They will help with tasks related to compliance preparation including evaluating the impact of security-relevant changes, assessing implemented patching and hardening, and evaluating overall system security baselines to include updates and changes. Other tasks will be observing the level of support required for ensuring daily cybersecurity tasks, security operations, and incident response are in compliance with appropriate cybersecurity framework guidance. In addition, the intern will be required to complete training towards at least one cybersecurity-focused certification.

Qualifications:
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and teamwork, and analytical and research skills.
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, computer software engineering or information technology
A rising junior or senior
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal direction
Capable of clearly communicating technical topics with team members
GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
Graduating in calendar year 2026 or 2027, not committed to other organizations after graduation, and would consider joining MTSI in the Colorado Springs, CO area after graduation

Desired Skills
Familiarity with operating systems like Windows and Linux
Fundamental understanding of cybersecurity and network fundamentals to include firewalls, switches, encryption, and anti-malware software and configuration
Fundamental understanding of cyber risks and vulnerabilities
Fundamental understanding of system security architecture and design principles
Fundamental understanding of risk management
Understanding of NIST and other governing publications, such as NIST 800-53 Rev. 5 and the RMF lifecycle
Fundamental understanding of cloud and cloud infrastructure
Active US Secret Clearance

Clearance: Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance.
