This is a highly flexible, schedule-variable role. Candidates must be willing and able to:
Work any day, any hour (including nights, weekends, and short-notice shifts)
Work variable hours (anywhere from 5 to 30+ hours/week)
Support after-hours migration cutovers with minimal downtime
Work onsite only at Dulles International Airport
This role is hands-on and physical, not a configuration or design role.

Role Overview
The Cisco Network Migration Technician will provide hands-on support for a large-scale Cisco switch replacement initiative at Dulles International Airport. The technician will work closely with MWAA (Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority) engineers during staging, migration cutovers, and decommissioning activities across approximately 212 communication closets.
The technician will not configure switches, but will play a critical role in ensuring accurate cabling, equipment handling, and low-downtime migrations.

Key Responsibilities
Staging & Installation
Transport Cisco switches from staging/storage to assigned communication closets.
Unbox, assemble, rack, stack, and power up Cisco Catalyst switches (9300 & 9400 series).
Install rack hardware, stacking modules, power supplies, and cable management components.
Follow MWAA runbooks and manufacturer guidelines.
Cabling & Migration Support
Cross-connect and label Cat6 patch cables and fiber uplinks.
Assist MWAA engineers during live cutovers by migrating copper and fiber connections one at a time per approved MOPs.
Verify port assignments, labeling, and physical connectivity pre- and post-migration.
Support low-, medium-, and high-complexity communication closet migrations.
Decommissioning & Inventory
Remove legacy switches during or after cutover windows.
Transport decommissioned equipment to designated MWAA storage areas.
Update daily inventory logs (barcodes, models, rack locations, closet IDs).
Documentation & Coordination
Follow MWAA security, access, and change control procedures.
Update daily cutover and status reports.
Coordinate closely with the onsite Project Manager and MWAA engineering teams.

Required Qualifications
2+ years of hands-on experience with:
o Network hardware installation and cabling
o Racking, stacking, and cabling enterprise switches
Familiarity with Cisco Catalyst switches (3850, 9300, 9400 preferred)
Experience working in:
o Data centers
o Telecom rooms
o Communication closets
Ability to read and follow:
o Runbooks
o Rack elevations
o Cabling diagrams
Comfortable performing physical work:
o Lifting equipment
o Working in racks and confined spaces

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting network migrations or refresh programs
Exposure to airport or large enterprise environments
Knowledge of:
o Cat6 copper cabling standards
o Basic fiber handling
Experience supporting live cutovers
Prior experience with inventory tracking and migration documentation

Must be able to obtain and maintain MWAA airport security credentials
Must pass required criminal background checks
Compliance with MWAA Orders & Instructions (O&I)
Ability to meet AOA vehicle access requirements (if applicable)

Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in racks for extended periods
