Role: DBA Migration Expert
Location: AZ, IL, TX, RI(Onsite)

Role Overview
The DBA will be responsible for assessing, planning, and executing the migration of onpremises Oracle databases to PostgreSQL on Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform). This includes schema conversion, data migration, performance tuning, and ensuring high availability and secure deployment. The ideal candidate has strong handson experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL, cloud database engineering, and enterprise-scale data migration projects.
Key Responsibilities
Migration Planning & Assessment
- Analyze existing Oracle database environments, including schema structures, PL/SQL packages, triggers, functions, and stored procedures.
- Identify migration challenges (datatype mismatches, performance differences, Oracle-specific features).
- Create a full migration plan covering schema conversion, data movement, cutover strategy, rollback plan, and validation steps.
Database Migration Execution
- Use tools such as Ora2Pg, Database Migration Service (DMS), Striim, or other ETL pipelines to migrate Oracle data to PostgreSQL on Google Cloud Platform.
- Convert Oracle schema objects, SQL queries, and PL/SQL code to PL/pgSQL.
- Perform data validation, consistency checks, and reconcile differences after migration.
- Design and execute zerodowntime or minimaldowntime migration strategies as needed.
PostgreSQL Engineering & Optimization
- Configure and maintain PostgreSQL databases on Cloud SQL or GKE-hosted Postgres.
- Optimize performance (query tuning, indexing, vacuuming, partitioning).
- Implement backup, restore, HA, and disaster recovery strategies in Google Cloud Platform.
- Implement monitoring using Cloud Monitoring, pg_stat, or other tools.
Google Cloud Platform Platform Responsibilities
- Deploy and manage databases using Google Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, GCS transfer, and VPC networking.
- Ensure security compliance: IAM roles, encryption at-rest/in-transit, private IP, authorized networks.
- Work with cloud engineers to ensure optimal architecture and networking.
Operations & Support
- Troubleshoot migration issues, replication failures, performance degradation, and query bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with application teams to support integration testing and functional validation.
- Provide production support and post-migration tuning.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5 10+ years of DBA experience with strong expertise in Oracle (11g/12c/19c).
- Strong handson experience with PostgreSQL (Cloud SQL/Postgres 13+ preferred).
- Practical experience using Ora2Pg, Google Cloud Platform DMS, or equivalent migration tools.
- Strong SQL tuning and performance optimization background.
- Skilled in translating PL/SQL to PL/pgSQL.
- Experience with database replication, partitioning, indexing strategies.
- Strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform architecture (VPCs, IAM, Cloud SQL, networking concepts).
- Experience with shell scripting, Python, or automation tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with at least one large-scale Oracle PostgreSQL migration.
- Familiar with DevOps and CI/CD practices for database changes.
- Exposure to microservices architectures relying on PostgreSQL or Cloud SQL.

- Ability to collaborate with application, cloud, and infrastructure teams.
