Duration: 4 Months Plus (Extension Possible)

Job Description:
 
Role Overview
Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking an experienced Systems Analyst 3 / Databricks Administrator to support enterprise data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering, configuring, and supporting the Databricks platform on AWS, ensuring platform reliability, security, governance, and cost optimization while enabling data teams across the organization.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Administer and support Databricks workspaces in an AWS cloud environment
Configure and manage Databricks clusters, jobs, and workspace settings
Implement and enforce cluster policies, governance standards, and best practices
Manage user access, roles, and permissions using IAM, SCIM, and RBAC
Integrate Databricks with AWS services and cloud storage (S3)
Monitor platform health, availability, performance, and troubleshoot issues
Support data engineers, analysts, and data scientists across the organization
Ensure data security, encryption, and compliance standards are met
Assist with cost monitoring and optimization of Databricks workloads
Utilize automation and DevOps tools to improve platform efficiency
 
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience administering Databricks in AWS
Strong expertise in:
Databricks workspace and cluster management
Job scheduling and orchestration
Apache Spark performance tuning and troubleshooting
Experience managing IAM, SCIM, and role‑based access control (RBAC)
Hands‑on experience integrating Databricks with AWS S3
Strong understanding of platform monitoring, governance, and security
Experience with DevOps / automation tools (Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, scripting)
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
 
Preferred Qualifications
Experience administering Databricks in government or large enterprise environments
Hands‑on experience with Unity Catalog
Knowledge of Databricks cost management and optimization
Experience supporting AI/ML workloads, MLflow
Familiarity with data lake and lakehouse architectures
Programming experience with Python, SQL, or Scala
