Mechanical Analysis Engineer

Solar Turbines is a subsidiary of Caterpillar and is a global leader in providing energy solutions that help businesses, governments and public institutions find the perfect balance between affordable, available, and reduced carbon energy. Solar Turbines provides best-in-class energy solutions with turbomachinery for power generation and motor driven compression products and packages in the 1-39 megawatt range.

This position is part of the Turbomachinery Packaging Standards Group, and is an integral part of the design, validation, and execution of Solar Turbines' standard offerings for Customer projects. The engineer will initially be tasked with executing turbomachinery drivetrain alignment calculations in support of customer project execution. Additionally, the engineer will be introduced to packaging structural analysis using classical calculation methods as well as software like RISA-3D and ANSYS.

After training and getting acquainted with Solar's products and processes, the candidate will move to specialize in areas of two or more mechanical analysis disciplines as the designated subject matter expert. The engineer will be partnered with senior engineers to develop a base of knowledge around the related subject matter.

The engineer will be expected to work cross functionally with engineers throughout the business to adequately define project details and execute tasks as required.

The successful candidate will display a willingness to learn, have an aptitude for applying complex subjects, be highly detail oriented, and can handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines for a variety of tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering field
  • 3-7 years of engineering experience related to torsional work.
  • Experience using CAD software (Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, SpaceClaim)
  • Strong ability in Microsoft program suite including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Excel Macros (VBA), Python, MATLAB or any similar programming language
  • Strong fundamental mechanical design understanding

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Turbomachinery system applications, design, and operations
  • Experience with analysis tools such as ANSYS, RISA-3D, and Space Claim.
  • Basic understanding of vibration analysis
  • Personal skills including: the ability to work well with others and to lead smaller development efforts. Strong self-initiation, a positive attitude, a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and ability to clearly communicate ideas

Summary Pay Range:

$112,704.00 - $169,056.00
