Position Summary

The State of Nevada, Office of the Secretary of State, is seeking a technically skilled contractor to support the extraction, analysis, and preparation of data and system-generated records from the Voter Registration and Election Management System (VREMS) in response to Public Records Requests.

This role focuses on the technical identification, retrieval, validation, and preparation of VREMS data, working closely with IT and Elections teams to ensure records are complete, accurate, and appropriately formatted prior to legal review and release.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with databases, system logs, and structured data, along with the ability to translate technical outputs into usable records for compliance and transparency purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Extract and compile data from VREMS, including voter registration datasets, system reports, audit logs, and transaction histories.
  2. Analyze system-generated records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with Public Records Requests.
  3. Work with IT and Elections teams to identify data sources, validate outputs, and troubleshoot discrepancies.
  4. Prepare datasets and records in formats suitable for review, redaction, and release (e.g., Excel, CSV, structured reports).
  5. Document data queries, extraction methods, and assumptions to ensure repeatability and auditability.
  6. Assist in interpreting technical system data for non-technical stakeholders, including the PIO and legal staff.
  7. Support the identification of sensitive or restricted data elements within VREMS outputs prior to legal review.
  8. Maintain organized tracking of requests, datasets produced, and supporting documentation.
  9. Identify opportunities to streamline and automate recurring data pulls and reporting processes.
  10. Support system-related inquiries tied to Public Records Requests, including explaining system functionality and data structure.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with databases, data systems, or election systems (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Excel, data analysis, and handling large datasets
  • Familiarity with SQL, reporting tools, or data query tools (strongly preferred)
  • Experience reviewing system logs, audit trails, or transactional data
  • Ability to translate technical data into clear, usable outputs
  • Strong attention to detail and data validation skills
  • Experience working in government, elections, or regulated data environments is a plus
  • Understanding of data privacy and security principles
