Job Title: Database Administrator 2

Location: Austin, TX 78751 (Hybrid)
Duration: 10 Months (Possible Extension)

 
Job Description:
  • Selects and enters codes of utility programs to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory and enter codes to create production database.
  • Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to database management system.
  • Reviews and corrects programs and answers user questions.
  • Conference with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to database.
  • Modifies database programs to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning. Workers typically specialize in one or more types of database management systems.
  • Helping with the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems, and ensuring that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment.
  • Evaluates users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporates them into the existing shared data environment, and provides technical assistance.
  • Coordinates the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, loads databases, and reorganizes as needed.
  • Performs data modeling and prototyping.
  • Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
  • Performs security recovery procedures and determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for use of data dictionary. Monitors database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
  • Executes the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures within established procedures.
  • Assists with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security and with monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
  • Assists with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
  • Assists in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases and with establishing and controlling necessary database security and Assists in the selection of database management software.
  • Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming work.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design, computer operations, systems, and procedures, project control and cost estimating techniques, of computer programming languages, data processing flowcharting techniques, database structures and theories, current database technologies.
  • Has working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
  • Ensures that user interfaces for database administration and inputting, viewing, outputting data (via reports) are compliant with accessibility standards.
  • Provides support to users in obtaining data / information when EIR Accessibility issues arise.
 
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • 5 years of strong knowledge of database management systems, as well as data warehouse management and decision support tools
  • 5 years of extensive experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts is desired
  • 5 years of experience in business objects and in building the data dictionary
  • 5 years of ability to use database access tools for application delivery
  • 5 years of strong familiarity with analysis, planning and management reporting functions
  • 5 years of Well-developed oral and written communications skills
  • 5 years of Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • 5 years of Extremely high level of analytical ability where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
  • 5 years of Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques
  • 5 years of Very high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
  • 5 years of Data Warehousing data population and data modeling techniques for target structures such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and highly normalized data models
  • 5 years of GUI based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools.
  • 5 years of Implementation experience with enterprise class databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, etc. or similar technologies.
  • 5 years of Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
  • 5 years of Experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL pe
  • 5 years of Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
  • 5 years of Excellent analytical; problem-solving; team playing; and oral and written communication skills.
  • 5 years of Proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities.
 
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • 5 years of Oracle Database experience
  • 5 years of PowerBI report creation
