Summary

Job Title: Network Engineer Consultant
Location: Columbia, SC - Hybrid (3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)
Note: Remote work is not permitted during the first year
Duration: 12 Months (with potential extension up to 2 additional years)


Position Overview

This role requires an experienced Network Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft enterprise systems and infrastructure technologies. The consultant will support and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available network and server environments while contributing to strategic initiatives, automation, and modernization efforts.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft endpoint management tools, server platforms, and cloud-integrated environments, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, automate administrative tasks, and collaborate across teams.

This position includes participation in a shared 24/7 on-call rotation.


Scope of Work

  • Provide expert-level support for Microsoft SCCM/MECM, Intune, and MDM in a GCC High environment
  • Administer Group Policy Objects (GPO) and manage Windows Server (2019/2022/2025) and Windows 11 environments
  • Support applications built on Microsoft .NET framework and web-based technologies
  • Work with MS SQL and clustering technologies
  • Develop scripts and automation using PowerShell
  • Monitor network infrastructure, security, and system performance
  • Support disaster recovery and failover strategies
  • Ensure system stability, integrity, and optimization of infrastructure services
  • Document processes, procedures, system designs, and user guides
  • Provide recommendations for system improvements with effort estimates
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to define and support data requirements
  • Transfer knowledge and best practices to internal teams

Key Responsibilities

< data-start="2044" data-end="2067">Non-Technical:
  • Communicate effectively with technical teams and leadership (up to Director level)
  • Provide feedback on product issues, enhancements, and new features
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and problem-solving mindset
  • Manage multiple tasks and provide regular status updates
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve issues and improve knowledge sharing
  • Prioritize and resolve incidents within defined service levels
  • Maintain accurate documentation in helpdesk/ticketing systems
  • Deliver strong customer service and attention to detail
< data-start="2635" data-end="2654">Technical:
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and recommend solutions
  • Develop workarounds where necessary
  • Monitor systems and recommend hardware/software improvements
  • Serve as a technical resource for IT teams and business units
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and system issues
  • Escalate and coordinate with vendors or support teams as needed
  • Oversee vendor activities and ensure successful issue resolution

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor s degree + 2 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Associate s degree + 4 years of relevant experience, OR
  • High School Diploma/GED + 6 years of relevant experience

Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SCCM/MECM and Intune/MDM
  • 3+ years of experience working in GCC High environments
  • 5+ years of experience with Pub1075 regulations, implementations, or audits
  • 5+ years of experience with Change Management processes
  • 3+ years of experience managing Active Directory permissions and RBAC
  • 5+ years of experience with LAN and VLAN networking
  • 5+ years of experience with VMware virtualization
  • Experience working within a state agency environment
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as MCP, MCSE, or equivalent
  • Experience with STIG hardening
  • Knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture
  • Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure
  • Shell scripting expertise
