Location: Scottsdale, AZ - Fully onsite


Seeking a highly skilled Robotics/Autonomy Engineer - Computer Vision to lead the development and integration of advanced perception, vision-based navigation, and autonomy software for a small unmanned electric aircraft.

You will collaborate closely with flight software, aeromechanical, and avionics teams to deliver robust autonomy solutions for GPS-denied, contested, and complex operating environments from prototype through production. The position focuses on cutting-edge computer vision, sensor fusion, and real-time autonomy algorithms that enable resilient operations in austere conditions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimize computer vision and ISP software for real-time robotic and UAV applications
  • Develop computer vision algorithms for perception, navigation, target detection, and tracking in GPS-denied and contested environments
  • Implement and maintain camera drivers, video pipelines, and hardware-accelerated vision algorithms
  • Integrate vision systems with navigation, control, and autonomy software stacks
  • Implement and validate autonomy capabilities using vision-based inputs and multi-sensor data
  • Support sensor fusion, SLAM, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous navigation functionality
  • Select, configure, integrate, and test vision sensors and compute payloads
  • Ensure software solutions are scalable, maintainable, efficient, and production-ready
  • Collaborate with hardware, systems, avionics, and autonomy engineers to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues involving camera systems and vision pipelines
  • Participate in field testing, data collection, performance analysis, and system refinement
  • Document software architecture, algorithms, implementation details, and test procedures
  • Stay current with emerging computer vision, machine learning, and hardware acceleration technologies
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of image formation, filtering, feature extraction, segmentation, optical flow, object detection, tracking, and recognition
  • Experience with camera calibration (intrinsic and extrinsic) and synchronization of multi-sensor data
  • Proficiency with OpenCV, GStreamer, and V4L2
  • Experience with hardware acceleration technologies including CUDA, SIMD, Vulkan, or similar frameworks
  • Familiarity with Nvidia Jetson platforms, FPGAs, VPUs, Intel Movidius, and Coral TPU
  • Experience with deep learning-based computer vision techniques including CNNs, transformers, and object detection/segmentation frameworks such as YOLO, Faster R-CNN, Mask R-CNN, DETR, and SAM
  • Knowledge of classical computer vision algorithms including SIFT, SURF, ORB, HOG, Harris, and FAST
  • Understanding of image and video stabilization, SLAM, and 3D reconstruction
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development environments
  • Proficiency with Git and CMake
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience in computer vision, robotics, embedded systems, or related disciplines
  • Proven experience developing image signal processing (ISP) and computer vision software
  • Hands-on experience with MIPI Camera Serial Interface (CSI) and image sensor driver development
  • Experience integrating and operating camera systems within UAVs or autonomous platforms
  • Knowledge of video codecs such as H.264 and H.265
  • Experience with video transmission technologies and protocols including RTSP and MPEG-TS
  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python, and/or Rust
