Summary

Job Title: Software Engineering Manager (Healthcare IT)
Type: Direct Hire
Location: Palo Alto, CA (3 days onsite)
Salary: Up to $200K

We are seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead multiple Agile Scrum teams delivering a mix of custom and third-party web applications in a healthcare IT environment. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and product ownership, with a strong focus on building secure, scalable, and high-performing applications that support clinical, research, and operational systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage 3 Agile Scrum teams delivering web-based applications
  • Define architecture, technical roadmap, and solution design
  • Actively contribute to hands-on development and technical problem-solving
  • Drive application performance, scalability, and security compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including IT, Security, Quality, and business stakeholders
  • Manage SLAs, incident resolution, enhancements, and system reliability
  • Oversee budgeting, capacity planning, and resource allocation
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering teams; manage hiring and performance
  • Partner with leadership and stakeholders to align technology with business goals

Must-Have Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software engineering and team leadership
  • Strong hands-on experience in software development and SDLC best practices
  • Experience working in a healthcare IT environment
  • Knowledge and experience with EMR systems (Electronic Medical Records)
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale, complex IT projects
  • Strong understanding of IT systems, applications, databases, and integrations
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders and distributed teams
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Strengths:

  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean)
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation
