Position: Data Solution Architect
Duration: 12+ months – contract
Location: Dublin, CA (Hybrid – 2 or 3 days onsite a week)
JOB DESCRIPTION
SKILLS NEEDED : Snowflake, Python, Medallion Architecture, Snowflake security expertise
Project Description
• Trying to enable Snowflake as our target data platform
• Currently migrating from Netezza to Snowflake – lift and shift
• SVT is a new Medallion (SOMETHING)
• IT is responsible for landing the data
• MSI team is responsible for defining the data model, transforming data from the landing to the defined zone and published zone and building
• DBT (Transformation), MicroStrategy PowerBI, SQL DBM, Data Modeling, Defining
• Currently using StreamSets for ingestion
• Alation for Data Governance (nice to have)
Point is to start building with a NEW, correct framework for SVT
Duties/Day to Day Overview
• Provide guidance and best practices – platform, business dashboard creation, working with any new project between IT, Data, and MSI
• Business outcomes – the idea with SVT, bring all of our business domain data into one place
• Write use cases for the business
• Creating Business dashboards
o “Modelizing” all of that stuff for the business
• Will be a part of EVERY Data and Analytics project across the org
• Needs to understand security aspects, HOW does Snowflake do this?
• Working closely with Stakeholders
• Should be part of the design from the very start – understanding how Snowflake does XYZ
• Working closely with the SI partner and architects
Top Requirements
• Senior Level – potential to go to a principal level in the future (Groom them, take them to a principal level)
• Some hands on to do quick POCs – give options, build quick – PYTHON development experience (Architect level, give guidance, understand and read code, do some quick POCs)
• Features or Patterns – MUST Understand Medallion Architecture – HOW do you model, HOW to structure the data (ex: Customer Loyalty Program, HR Data
• MORE than just technical experience – good attitude, good comms, driving conversations to convince people of their advice, designs, POCs, etc.
• Retail is nice to have but not a hard requirement
Technical Requirements
• Emphasized the need for a solution architect with a solid Snowflake background, but also experience with data ingestion (e.g., StreamSets), CDC, DBT, and an understanding of dashboard/reporting enablement. 5
• Highlighted the importance of knowledge in Medallion architecture (landing, refined, published zones), data modeling, and structuring data for business use cases.
• Stressed Snowflake security expertise, especially for handling sensitive data (e.g., loyalty and HR data), and the need to work closely with information security to ensure foundational security is built into the design. 7
• Requested hands-on capability for quick POCs, not just theoretical knowledge, with Python development experience to guide and review code, and to support rapid prototyping.
Nice to haves
• We have an SI partner who is bringing in Architects already, this person is higher level, part of the design, road mapping, etc.
• Future – chatbot queries, AI use cases for future
