Summary

Basic Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology. Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher.

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

Apply your classroom-learned skills to a program supporting the defense of our country. GDMS has an immediate opening for an Engineering Intern to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to work on projects that support some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associated with our core mission. In addition to receiving a competitive wage, the Engineering Intern will enhance their skill set by working among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for troubleshooting hardware issues and a strong foundation in hardware and software tools. This position is ideal for current students pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Python test scripts to validate hardware functionality.
  • Support the interpretation and analysis of electronic schematics/datasheets for troubleshooting and design purposes.
  • Learn to operate and utilize laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and power supplies, to test and debug hardware.
  • Collaborate with the team using Git repositories for version control and code management.
  • Support hardware and software development processes by adhering to Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Design (CD) practices.
  • Utilize Linux/Unix command-line tools and shell commands for system-level operations and debugging.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving hardware-related issues efficiently and systematically.
  • Create and maintain test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test reports.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning Continuous Integration and Continuous Design (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Basic experience with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for hardware debugging.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and perform effectively on small teams.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Skills:
  • Programming Languages: Python, bash scripting
  • Hardware Debugging Tools: Oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and other lab equipment
  • Version Control: Git/GitLab and Git-based workflows for code management
  • Schematic Analysis: Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and datasheets
  • Operating Systems: Experience with Linux/Unix environments
  • CI/CD Tools: Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Design practices
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and resolving hardware-related issues
  • Team Collaboration: Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualities & Experience:
  • GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • Ability to work year around, able to work ~14 or more hours per week (we accommodate school schedules)
  • 12 months or more remaining until graduation
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams
  • Participated in extracurricular and community service activities
  • Previous internships
