Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking a highly motivated Senior Database Administrator to support the growing enterprise technology environment within the Information Technology Services Division. As a key member of the Enterprise Data Services Team, the role supports critical systems related to eCommerce, business intelligence, finance, human resources, wholesale and retail operations, enforcement and lottery.
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, support, capacity planning and performance of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Microsoft Azure SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments. The role partners with development and quality control, infrastructure, security operations, and auditor teams to ensure reliable and secure database operations across the Authority.
This position is on-site and based at Virginia ABC's Central Office in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Areas of Responsibility- Install, configure, upgrade, migrate and maintain databases and technologies
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize database and application performance
- Manage backup, recovery, security, and disaster recovery processes
- Support database design, documentation, standards, and capacity planning
- Provide technical support and consultation to development and business teams
- Experience with Oracle RAC, ASM, RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Microsoft Azure Cloud
- Knowledge of database performance tuning tools, including AWR, ASH, and ADDM
- Strong Linux and Oracle PL/SQL skills
- Experience supporting enterprise production databases
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues
- Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications- Served as an Oracle DBA supporting enterprise database environments
- Supported mission-critical databases in a 24x7 environment
- Experience with database performance tuning, monitoring, backup, recovery, and security administration
- Scripting in a Linux environment and Oracle SQL
- Designed, built, and supported enterprise applications with development teams
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) OR equivalent training and experience
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
- Served as an MSSQL Server and PostgreSQL Database Administrator supporting enterprise database environments
- Scripting in Oracle PLSQL
