We are seeking a FinOps Engineer to establish and lead a new FinOps capability. This role is responsible for driving financial accountability, optimizing cloud and on-premise infrastructure spend, and improving forecasting across the technology organization. The position requires a hands-on technical leader who will partner with Architecture, Engineering, and Finance to embed cost as a primary operational and design consideration, leveraging automation and AI-assisted insights to generate material cost savings.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive FinOps strategy and execution across both on-premise and cloud infrastructure, including Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
- Partner with the CTO, infrastructure teams, and finance partners to embed cost accountability into design and delivery workflows.
- Develop and implement application-level cost visibility, allocation, and chargeback models.
- Identify and execute optimization opportunities, such as rightsizing, reserved instances/savings plans, and storage lifecycle management.
- Establish and manage budgeting, forecasting, anomaly detection, and variance analysis processes for technology spend.
- Build automation, guardrails, and alerts to proactively detect, report on, and remediate spend issues.
- Use AI-assisted insights to identify inefficiencies and automate cost-saving recommendations.
- Implement and enforce tagging, allocation, and cost governance standards at an enterprise scale.
- Create and present dashboards and reports to communicate insights and trends to executive leadership and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 6-10+ years of experience in cloud, platform, or infrastructure engineering. Proven, hands-on FinOps expertise is the top priority for this role.
Technical Skills:- Hands-on experience with Azure and Google Cloud Platform cost management, billing models, and optimization.
- Experience managing and optimizing on-premise or hybrid infrastructure costs.
- Strong automation and scripting capabilities (Python, PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience using AI-driven insights or anomaly detection for FinOps automation.
- Proven ability to deliver measurable cost savings and efficiency improvements through FinOps practices.
- Experience implementing tagging and governance standards.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical cost drivers into business impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating FinOps in a large-scale or multi-cloud environment.
- Kubernetes or container cost optimization experience.
- Experience embedding cost as a non-functional requirement (NFR) in architecture and design reviews.
- Familiarity with third-party FinOps or cloud cost management platforms.
- FinOps Foundation certification or demonstrated applied FinOps maturity.
