Notes from Manager

• HM is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to backfill a role on the HR systems team at the Fremont office.

• The role requires a hybrid of manual and automation testing to support frequent weekly releases.

• Must work in person at the Fremont office due to the confidential nature of the HR data.

• Compensation or financial knowledge is preferred, such as experience with companies like PayPal, Visa, or Capital One.

Candidate Requirements

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in Python, Selenium, and Playwright.

• Strong SQL experience, specifically joins and basic queries.

• Strong JIRA experience.

• Working knowledge of test methodologies, processes, and tools, including STLC and test management tools such as ALM and Zephyr.

• Knowledge of databases: MS SQL Server/MySQL.

• Experience with one or more of the following: Ruby, Python, JavaScript, Java, and/or C#.

• Experience with mobile testing and mobile automation.

Experience Level:

• 5 6 years of experience preferred.

• Only 5 7 years of experience.

• Candidates with 8+ years are considered too senior for this individual contributor role.

Domain Knowledge:

• Experience with HR systems such as Workday or ADP is a plus but not mandatory.

• Financial/compensation data experience is a plus.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

• Should be able to do both functional and automation testing.

• Responsibilities are split approximately 50/50 between functional manual testing and automation.

• Track automation testing progress with weekly reports.

• Write backend integration tests and tests for RESTful APIs.

• Develop automated test scripts using Selenium and Python.

• Design and develop integration, regression, and stress tests using industry-standard tools.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Developers to understand requirements and translate them into test cases.

• Perform JIRA-based functional testing.

Interview Process

4 Rounds of Interview

• Initial screening by the recruiting team.

• 20-minute phone screen with a team member.

• Two technical rounds covering Python, Selenium, and SQL.

• One final round focused on collaboration and cross-functional fit, specifically the ability to work with HR and payroll business stakeholders during UAT.

Evaluation:

• Focus on basic coding concepts and QA architecture rather than complex LeetCode or deep development-side normalization.
