The Role This requisition is for two Manager Engineering 2 positions in the A4W/A1B Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard's (PREPY) Electrical System's Engineering division. One position is for the A1B and A4W Reactor I&C section and the other is for the Advanced Electrical Systems section; which is cognizant of A4W Electric Throttle Control (ETC). These group's provide engineering support to the fleet, new construction, NAVSEA, TYCOM, and the shipyards that support Nimitz and Ford Class carriers. This includes but isn't limited to modernization, life cycle maintenance, LAR resolution, obsolescence resolution, and technology development for electrical systems in the A4W and A1B Propulsion Plants.
The incumbent will be expected to have the following:
- Electrical background
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with formal and informal communication with the Naval Nuclear Laboratory/Bettis, multiple NAVSEA 08 codes, BPMI, TYCOM shipyards, and vendors
- Ability to apply engineering principles, theory, technology, and tools to lead a team which will analyze and resolve engineering problems in new and existing designs.
- Effective at project management and demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritize multiple efforts simultaneously to meet safety, schedule, cost, and quality objectives.
Must Have Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or Licensed Professional Engineer is desired.
Familiarity with the following is desired:
CVN Throttle Control systems
Electrical networks and Instrumentation & Control systems
Knowledge of the design, operations, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and instrumentation
Experience troubleshooting electrical equipment in shipboard and waterfront environments
Navy experience and/or nuclear/propulsion test experience
Military Environmental Qualification requirements and testing
Software certification, cybersecurity, and Risk Management Framework
Ability to self-initiate assignments, make decisions, and provide recommendations that are critical to achieving project/program long-range goals and objectives
History of performing duties while being largely self-directed and without significant supervision
