Summary:

The SAP FICO Functional Consultant serves as a hands-on internal consultant within the IT Enterprise Systems Group, responsible for configuring, optimizing, and providing ongoing support for the SAP Financial Accounting (FI) and Controlling (CO) modules across all regional affiliates. This role requires deep, independent expertise in FICO configuration and troubleshooting, with a strong emphasis on Controlling processes, including product costing, cost center accounting, profit center accounting, and profitability analysis. The consultant partners with finance, manufacturing, supply chain, and IT stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective SAP solutions, ensuring system integrity and alignment with organizational objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently configure and customize SAP FICO modules (FI and CO) to support evolving business requirements across all regional affiliates.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for General Ledger accounting, including leading and non-leading ledger concepts, document splitting configuration, and year-end closing activities.
  • Own the configuration and troubleshooting of Accounts Payable processes, including Automatic Payment Program (APP), house bank setup, payment methods, and BCM approval workflows.
  • Support Accounts Receivable processes, including billing, dunning, credit management, and incoming payment configuration.
  • Configure and maintain Asset Accounting, including asset classes, depreciation areas, the chart of depreciation, and asset lifecycle transactions (acquisition, transfer, retirement).
  • Lead the configuration and support of Controlling processes, including cost center accounting (master data setup, distribution, and assessment cycles), profit center accounting, internal orders, product costing, and profitability analysis (CO-PA).
  • Ensure proper FI/CO integration with other SAP modules, particularly SD (Sales and Distribution) and MM (Materials Management).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the FICO landscape, managing high-priority incidents through resolution while maintaining SLA compliance.
  • Gather and document business requirements from finance and cross-functional stakeholders for system enhancements and modifications.
  • Draft functional specifications for enhancements, custom reports, and interface requirements, coordinating with ABAP developers on custom solutions.
  • Write and execute test cases across the testing lifecycle (Unit, SIT, UAT, Regression) and document results.
  • Provide expert functional and process guidance on SAP FICO capabilities and solution approaches to business users and leadership.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, process flows, and user guides.
  • Deliver end-user training and knowledge transfer on SAP FICO processes and system functionality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, other SAP functional areas, Internal Audit, and PMO, to drive successful solution deployment.
  • Support enterprise application implementation and maintenance activities using agile methodology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP FICO configuration and functional consulting experience.
  • Deep configuration expertise in General Ledger accounting, including leading/non-leading ledgers, document splitting, and year-end closing procedures.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Controlling (CO), particularly cost center accounting (distribution, assessment, master data setup), profit center accounting, and product costing.
  • Working knowledge of Profitability Analysis (CO-PA) configuration and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of FI/CO integration with SD and MM modules.
  • Proficiency in SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA in relation to FICO.
  • Experience as a key team member on at least two full SAP FICO implementation cycles.
  • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex FICO issues in a production environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and core business processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience writing functional specifications and collaborating with ABAP developers on custom solutions.
  • Knowledge of ABAP debugging for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to interact effectively with business users and technical teams.
  • Self-motivated and outcome-oriented with the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
  • SAP FICO Certification in relevant functional modules/processes preferred.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA migration or implementation projects preferred.
  • Experience with Central Finance (CFIN) or multi-system SAP landscapes preferred.
  • Familiarity with Vertex or other tax engine integrations preferred.
  • Experience with electronic banking (EBS, DMEE, SEPA) configuration preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to Production Planning (PP) integration points preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP Fiori finance applications is preferred.
  • Experience with agile methodology in enterprise application environments preferred.
