Support and operate single point diamond turning (SPDT) equipment in the production flow of low to high volume jobs
Perform a wide range of standard and non-standard optical fabrication processes using diamond turning equipment with minimal supervision
Collaborate closely with engineering support and report directly to the Production Manager
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Windows
Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
Optical fabrication experience
CNC lathe experience preferred
Perform mechanical inspections using micrometers, optical comparators, dial indicators, and drop gauges to ensure components meet specifications for diameter, sag, and center thickness
Ability to read and interpret complex prints to determine tolerances and specifications
Operate and maintain diamond turning equipment for precision manufacturing of infrared optical lenses and metal mirrors
Ability to adjust, understand programming, set-up, and operate state-of-the-art lathe equipment
Understand the effect of feed rate, depth of cut, spindle speeds, and their effect on quality with different materials
Knowledge of DiffSys tool path software or similar
Familiar with G&M code, modification of tool paths, and use of call programs as needed
Responsible for cleaning and visually inspecting diamond-turned optical components, ensuring compliance with ISO and MIL standards for surface quality and dimensional accuracy
Inspect, maintain, and handle single-point diamond tools; knowledgeable in tool features, application, and proper use
Optical metrology skills including calibration and operation of interferometers and surface profilometers (e.g., Form Talysurf) for form error and surface roughness inspection of lenses and mirrors
Utilize good communication and interpersonal skills
Collaborate with peers and engineering to drive effective solutions to process issues
