Principal Transmission Planning Engineer to join our Grid Integration and Planning Team. In this role, you will support competitive transmission projects by conducting transmission analyses, managing interconnection processes in MISO, and ensuring projects can successfully connect to the grid. Your work will directly support our clients growth, partnerships, and key strategic initiatives across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and perform transmission planning assessments and analyses.
- Support production cost modeling, economic studies, and regional market evaluations to inform strategy and identify project opportunities.
- Apply innovative approaches to system modeling and simulation to uncover insights and support new initiatives.
- Lead technical analysis for project partnerships and investment opportunities.
- Prepare clear documentation, reports, and executive summaries for management and investment committees.
- Support siting, permitting, and licensing processes, including participation in hearings as required.
- Represent Client at local, regional, and national levels on transmission and interconnection matters.
- Oversee external consultants and subject matter experts as needed.
- Collaborate across U.S. and U.K. functions in a project team and matrix environment.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field (power systems focus preferred).
- Strong background in transmission system analysis.
- Proven ability to translate complex model outputs into clear business insights.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. power industry standards, structures, policies, regulations, and market fundamentals.
- Familiarity with transmission trends and technologies, including:
- Onshore and offshore wind
- Utility-scale renewable generation
- Energy storage
- Conventional generation
- Emerging technologies
- Track record of professional experience in projects, including business case development, option analysis, data analysis, estimating, and planning.
- Skilled at data handling, forecasting, and sensitivity testing.
- Strong interest in offshore wind project development and execution.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High computational literacy with experience managing large datasets.
- Fundamental understanding of electric transmission facility components, risks, and opportunities.
- Ability to develop tools and processes that promote best practices and knowledge sharing.
Interconnection of projects the transmission system. This role will provide support to key initiatives driving Client's growth and partnerships throughout the US.
Key Accountabilities Perform, lead, or facilitate engineering and transmission assessments and analyses.
Support and advise on production cost modeling, economic and regional market evaluations to assist in key strategic insights, identify or confirm project opportunities and solutions.
Apply innovative approaches to simulation and analysis that can help identify or support new initiatives.
Lead technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnerships.
Document, present and report findings and justifications. Help prepare executive summaries or investment committee papers.
Support or lead on siting, permitting and licensing requirements and/or hearings, if required.
Represent interests on national, regional, and local levels when necessary.
Oversee consultants, engineers or other subject matter experts as required to augment or complement the Business Development team.
Work in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across Client functions in the US and UK.
Qualifications Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields. Power systems focus desired.
Strong experience in transmission system analysis required.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex model outputs into business insight & articulate the impact of results.
Broad knowledge of US power industry standards, structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals is essential.
Familiarity with recent trends and technologies in electric transmission, onshore and offshore wind, other large-scale renewable generation, energy storage, conventional generation and emerging technologies.
Strong track record of relevant professional experience in projects, including developing business cases, optioneering, data analysis, estimating and work structure planning.
Flair for handling & manipulating data to forecast, derive trends and test sensitivities.
Interest in offshore wind project development and execution.
Excellent communication skills with proven ability to persuade, challenge and build credibility based on personally derived recommendations.
Computational literacy including handling large data sets is mandatory.
Fundamental understanding of the components of electric transmission facilities including key risks and opportunities is required.
Ability to develop tools and processes to facilitate best practice & knowledge sharing
