Summary

Overview of the Position:

The Engineer I is primarily responsible for developing and documenting technical data to support the repair activities at ACI. This is an entry level position for a new graduate or an engineer new to aviation/MRO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop repair instructions in accordance with engineering procedures and industry specifications.
  • Develop substantiating technical data in accordance with engineering procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Use various measuring tools and gages to reverse engineer parts.
  • Use XRF Gun and hardness tester to determine alloy and hardness of various metals.
  • Create drawings and figures for repair instructions.
  • Substantiate and document equivalencies for tools, equipment, materials and processes to support repair activities.
  • Communicate with customers and other interested parties to determine needs and design repair solutions.
  • Communicate with DERs and the FAA as needed to obtain approval for major repairs.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to understand stress analysis and/or mechanics of materials and apply them to practical applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent computer aided design tool.
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, as well as generating technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of applicable 14 CFR regulations, specifically parts 23, 25, 43, 65, & 145
  • Basic understanding of common repair processes and specifications including plating, thermal spray, NDT, machining/grinding, shot-peening and welding preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of metallurgy is desirable
  • Must possess clear written and oral technical communication skills to all levels of the organization and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able to manage time appropriately to balance multiple projects

Education / Experience Requirements:

A four year accredited engineering degree (AE, ME, or equivalent) is required

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Works in moderate noise levels.
  • No vision requirements.
