UI/UX Designer II

Introduction

The State of Wisconsin is looking for one UI/UX Designer II to work 40 hours a week. The position involves designing web-based application user interfaces that are accessible and mobile-friendly, adhering to relevant accessibility guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Design web-based application user interfaces that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements
• Develop and implement accessibility, mobile, and usability standards
• Utilize accessibility tools to ensure compliance with requirements
• Create wireframes and mockups using tools like Adobe XD and Figma
• Test applications for accessibility compliance
• Collaborate with development teams on user interface design
• Document standards, processes, and guidance for custom applications
• Prepare and conduct presentations on design concepts and changes

Requirements

Required Skills

• Advanced experience designing web-based application interfaces
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AngularJS
• Experience with accessibility standards such as WCAG
• Knowledge of ADA and Section 508 compliance
• Experience with Adobe XD and Figma

Preferred Skills

• Experience working in a government agency
• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel)
• UX certifications or training in accessibility standards

Interview Process

• Real-time screenshot photo required for all confirmed interviews
• 1st Round Interview: 60-minute in-person interview
• Potential 2nd Round Interview: Another 60-minute in-person interview

Duration

Till 6/30/26 with the possibility of extension on an annual basis. This position is an ongoing need.

Onsite or Remote

Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WI within 30 calendar days of the start date. Local candidates preferred. Headquarters is downtown Madison, WI. Services to DNR must be physically completed within the State of Wisconsin.

Project Details

This position will focus on developing standards specific to custom applications within a Microsoft .Net environment. The designer will work closely with Custom Apps Supervisors and Application Architect Lead to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.

Additional Details

• Must follow State of Wisconsin and DNR Acceptable Technology, Access, and Security policies
• Regular work hours are between 7:00 – 5:30 pm with after-hour deployments
• Reliable high-speed internet required if working remotely
• State holidays not paid unless part of work agreement
• Equipment must be returned at the end of the contract

Technical Environment

DNR has a large number of .Net custom applications and high usage of GIS applications. Technologies include ASP.Net, .Net, Angular, C#, JavaScript, and more.

Job Duties

• Orient to current custom applications and pain points related to user interfaces
• Research, identify, and document standards for user interfaces
• Review and test applications for compliance
• Assist in maintaining inventory of application findings
• Develop processes to ensure ongoing compliance
• Provide recommendations to resolve issues
• Identify and document testing strategy and scenarios
• Complete testing using approved tools
• Provide web accessibility consultation
• Develop wireframes and mockups
• Manage code through Azure DevOps
• Participate in Agile Methodologies meetings
• Analyze tasks and provide input into estimates
• Keep documentation and processes updated
• Ensure deliverables comply with branding standards
• Prepare and conduct presentations
• Analyze impact of legislative changes on business requirements
• Participate in audits and gather metrics related to accessibility compliance
